Seven Ideas for reducing genital herpes, cold sores, shingles outbreaks

Herpes viruses lie dormant in body tissues and are expressed periodically, probably as a result of stress, diet, and other factors.

A national survey of the US population conducted between 1988 and 1994 found that more than one in five people over 12 had blood tests that showed evidence for infection with herpes simplex virus 2 (HSV 2), the virus typically responsible for genital herpes. This represents a 30 percent increase from 1976-1980. There is also evidence that genital infections with HSV 1, which normally causes cold sores around the mouth, are on the rise.

 Genital herpes recurrence

Recurrent episodes of genital herpes are milder and shorter in duration than initial outbreaks. However the frequency of recurrences is greater than had been thought in the past, because of asymptomatic shedding. Use of condoms as prevention Condoms are only partly protective because HSV-2 can spread by skin-to-skin contact, which could occur in areas not covered by the condom. Even when people with genital herpes don't have a visible outbreak of infection, they may be able to infect others with the virus. Archives of Internal Medicine, July 13, 2009.

What are natural things one can do?

While there is currently no cure, or immunization, to defeat herpes, there are natural measures that can ease, and possibly prevent, future outbreaks. There are herbal treatments for herpes that boost the three lines of defense against attacks by herpes. Capsuled mixtures, tinctures and teas intended for internal intake, work to enforce the immune system – the first layer of defense. This will help the body keep the outbreak down and minimize symptoms. The second layer of defense is responsible for countering stress. Emotional stress may impact immune system very badly and thus make your body more vulnerable to virus attacks. There are supportive herbs that relieve stress and therefore enable the immune system to combat the virus. Thirdly, there are herbal remedies that are used externally on affected areas and help reduce the discomfort.

 Genital Herpes in women

For women with genital herpes, taking oral contraceptives can double the likelihood of actively shedding the virus and so passing on the infection. The risk is also roughly doubled when women have bacterial vaginosis -- vaginal infection characterized by heavy discharge -- or when the vagina is colonized by group B strep.

Natural help for inflammation, pain, cholesterol and immunity

This vitamin provides a blend of the highest quality antioxidants that are known to fight cancer, joint inflammation, and cardiovascular disease. It also has a blend of the most effective weight loss aids on the market today.

Resveratrol is Derived from the grapes of wine and Japanese Knotweed, got very interesting for the science community back in the eighties due to the extreme low cases of coronary heart diseases found amongst French people, compared to any country in the world. Resveratrol is also thought to have blood sugar lowering properties.

The Maqui is the highest antioxidant value of any known fruit. It helps to support healthy inflammatory functions, and healthy aging. Maqui has been used in traditional native medicine by the Mapuche Indians to treat inflammations, sore throat, diarrhea, ulcers and fever. It has also been used to increase strength and stamina.

This supplement also contains green tea and grapeseed extract which has anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, anti cancerous and anti-microbial activity.

The secret of green tea lies in the catechin polyphenols, particularly epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). This substance is a powerful anti-oxidant which means that it inhibits the growth of cancer cells. It is proven that it is at least 100 more times more effective than vitamin C and 25 times more effective than vitamin E at protecting cells and DNA from damage believed to be linked to cancer, heart disease and other serious illnesses. Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences report green tea polyphenols contains 51 phytonutrients that support a healthy inflammatory response.*

Acai Berries
Have been used by Indians in the rainforest for centuries for the treatment of diarrhea, fever, muscle pain, menstrual pain, jaundice, liver and kidney diseases. The health industry got very interested in Acai due to its weight loss abilities and because of the very high value of antioxidants which is one of the highest ever seen. It is recorded at a value of 102,700 per 100 g antioxidants against Peroxyl radicals, determined from both hydrophilic and lipophilic sources.

Grapeseed extract is prescribed by doctors in Europe for a variety of vascular disorders, collagen damage, water retention and arthritis. Grape seed extract also helps to reduce or eliminate the symptoms of leg cramps, varicose veins, diabetes, and numbness in the extremities

Alpha Lipoic Acid

Scientists first discovered the ALA compound in bacteria back in 1937. At one time scientists believed ALA was a vitamin -- substances the body needs, but can't produce on its own. But in 1998, it was identified as an antioxidant crucial to energy production in the body. It is also thought to regulate blood sugar[source: American Cancer Society)

Overall this supplement:

A potent antioxidant that helps prevent free radical damage which can lead to premature aging of cells

Contains cholesterol lowering ingredients like green tea, lutein, lycopene, grapeseed extract, and resveratrol

Recently, a great number of plant-derived substances have been evaluated as possible inhibitors of the NF-kappaB pathway. NF-kappaB represents an important and very attractive therapeutic target for drugs to treat many inflammatory diseases, including arthritis, asthma, and the auto-immune diseases, most attention has been paid in the last decade to the identification of compounds that selectively interfere with this pathway. This supplement contains natural NF-kB inhibitors:, contains green tea, resveratrol, vitamins A, C, E

Contains natural COX 2 inhibitors (pain medicine). Celebrex is a prescription COX-2 inhibitor. This supplement contains Vitamins A and E, Resveratrol, and Green Tea are natural COX-2 inhibitors and provide some relief from menstrual cramps and joint pain. This is a great supplement for people who are trying to decrease their usage of prescription pain medications, or who need to avoid the complications of prescription pain medications.

For Lupus patients, people who are ANA positive, or people with rheumatoid arthritis: It contains Vitamins A and E. These vitamins may help prevent cell damage that leads to joint pain. The active ingredient in green tea, polyphenol, may have anti-inflammatory properties that can be helpful in lupus; some research has been done to support the use of green tea as a natural anti-inflammatory. Alpha lipoic acid and citrus bioflavonoids benefit those with inflammation and can provide positive results with inflammatory conditions. I have recommended this supplement for my patients with bursitis, arthritis, fibromyalgia and other inflammatory conditions, and they have reported improvement with those conditions.

What is the ORAC value?

To determine what makes a fruit, berry or a spice high in antioxidant, we have to figure out its ORAC value compared to other fruits, berries or spices. The ORAC value (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) is a measuring of the antioxidant capacity of different foods and supplements, developed by scientists at the National Institutes of Health. The higher ORAC value, the better the food or supplement is to break down and slow down the oxidative processes and free radical damage that can contribute to age related diseases and degeneration.
There are 4 main ingredients that make it a strong antioxidant supplement. The recommended daily ORAC is 3000-5000 per day. This has been ORAC tested by Brunswick labs and contains 1318 per capsule.

The recommended dose is 1-3 capsules daily. It would take a couple of weeks to notice an effect.

Prostate cancer... herbal thoughts. Click here

Prostate cancer, meaning cancer of the prostate gland, is a common adenocarcinoma in men. The probability of getting prostate cancer rises with age. It is generally treated by surgically removing the small prostate gland or with radiation. It is generally detected by high PSA levels and/or by surgical biopsies.

Inhibiting angiogenesis alone can be effective in some cases of cancer. But for breast and prostate cancer, addition of an aromatase inhibitor may prove to be a more effective regimen because many aspects of the cancer are being targeted at the same time. First, the formation of blood vessels that feed the tumor is prevented. Second, by precluding the action of aromatase, estrogen production is greatly diminished, helping prevent the proliferation of tumor cells.

Treatment with either an angiogenesis or an aromatase inhibitor by itself certainly has merit. But combining both therapies, particularly for estrogen-responsive diseases like breast and prostate cancer, has such tremendous potential success that it should be considered as a complementary treatment.

Although aromatase activity has been detected in malignant prostate cancer tissues, the use of aromatase inhibitors as standard prostate cancer treatment is not yet considered the norm. But they are currently being explored as potential therapy because of emerging research linking aromatase expression, estrogen dominance and prostate cancer.
PriVita is an herbal product designed with estrogen blocking and aromatase inhibition in mind. It contains resveratrol, pomegranate, green tea, turmeric and many other antioxidant ingredients. Resveratrol works through more than a dozen different anticancer mechanisms and selectively targets cancer cells. This single supplement modulates hormones, has several mechanisms that stop cancer cells from multiplying, and even has the ability to destroy cancer cells. One remarkable aspect of resveratrol is that it can be very toxic to cancer cells but does not harm healthy cells; in fact, a person taking resveratrol for protection against prostate cancer may receive cardiovascular benefits as a side effect. Another important aspect of resveratrol is that it may be combined with other phytofactors to potentially enhance its effects. Resveratrol naturally occurs with other polyphenols such as quercetin in plants such as grapes. Pomegranate juice An antioxidant that delays rise in PSA (doubling time indicating tumor growth), as well as helping promote penile blood flow to reduce erectile dysfunction. Indole-3-Carbinol An anti-cancer compound found in cruciferous vegetables that decreases the risk of developing cancer. Green Tea Boosts immune system and induces prostate cancer programmed cell death (apoptosis)

Psoriasis and eczema natural treatment

There are many things that help with both eczema and psoriasis.

Psoriasis is a skin condition which cause large reddened scaly patches on the skin. The condition can be limited to a specific area of the body or the whole body may be affected. Psoriasis can occur on just about anywhere on the body and causes a great deal of emotional anguish to the sufferer.

Eczema is a form of atopic dermatitis caused by an allergic reaction of the skin. Eczema is common in infants and young children and though many cases of infantile eczema resolve with age, a large number of people continue to suffer from eczema as adults

Eczema and psoriasis are skin conditions that can share similar symptoms, such as irritation and inflammation, but they are separate diseases. There is no cure for these conditions, but topical treatments and medications exist, and some individuals find that herbal supplements and teas can relieve symptoms.

Aloe vera has been shown to be effective in the treatment of psoriasis. Numerous studies document the wound healing, anti-inflammatory and immune stimulating effects of Aloe Vera. It is vital for all types of skin care and particularly beneficial in the treatment of painful, difficult and/or challenging skin conditions such as acne, eczema and psoriasis.

Since eczema and psoriasis are both characterized by inflammation, the anti-inflammatory properties of coconut oil make this a perfect treatment option.

Neem oil

Neem oil is a very complex natural oil that contains over 140 active ingredients. Those ingredients have a wide range of uses:

Neem oil is a brilliant emollient, a substance that softens and moistens dry cracked skin. This straight away eliminates a lot of the irritation and itchiness. It moisturizes and protects, and heals any lesions or scaling.

Neem also soothes the redness and irritation directly, through the steroid like effect of some of its ingredients. Yes, neem can affect your skin similar to the way steroids do, but without all the nasty side effects.

Neem oil generally enhances skin health and the natural immunity of your skin, which is one of the biggest factors in psoriasis.

Neem oil is strongly antibacterial, and the benefit of this for psoriasis is obvious. Neem cleans up any skin infections that may have developed because of cracked broken skin (due to dryness or scratching).

Neem is anti-inflammatory, and can reduce the redness and irritation. The two main anti-inflammatory substances in neem are called nimbin and nimbidin, and they have been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties comparable to common non-steroids (phenylbutazone) and steroidal drugs (prednisole).

Neem is also a strong analgesic (pain killer). Some people report instant relief from the excruciating discomfort, as soon as they apply neem salve or cream to eczema skin.

And neem is antibacterial, and can clean up any secondary infections, or even better, prevent them from happening in the first place.

Tea tree oil

Essential oils can be extremely useful for those suffering from skin conditions, especially tea tree oil. Eczema symptoms often improve quickly after using this essential oil in conjunction with other natural eczema remedies. Why is this? Tea tree oil contains antibacterial properties that help reduce naturally occurring bacteria on the skin. Tea tree oil also helps soothe irritated skin caused by excessive scratching or chaffing.

The medicinal benefits of tea tree oil are impressive. It is effective against psoriasis, candida, skin infections, hemorrhoids, eczema, nail infections, acne and dandruff. Very few side effects have been reported, except from people with allergies to tea tree

Lavender Oil

Lavender Oil can help to relieve the pain and itch and provide some stress relief which boosts the immune system helping to heal the lesions. The cause of the condition is largely unknown and often times many strong creams, lotions and pills are prescribed to treat the problem. UV light treatments are used as well.

Lavender Oil due to its antiseptic, antibacterial, anti-fungal and circulatory stimulating properties has been used as a treatment for Eczema. It is also an immune booster and powerful anti-inflammatory for the skin.

All these qualities help to speed healing and prevent or reduce scarring of the skin. Lavender works to relieve the associated pain and itch that frequently occurs with skin inflammation.

Myrrh Oil

Myrrh oil is used in aromatherapy to revitalize wrinkled and aging skin when blended into a carrier oil like coconut oil. Renowned for thousands of years as an oil prized for beauty, it also has incredibly therapeutic properties for skin maladies, like dry skin, chapped skin, eczema, psoriasis.

Cloves

Cloves contain some of the same phenols as Oil of Oregano, namely carvacrol and thymol, among others, which are highly antifungal in nature, as well as antimicrobial, antioxidant, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory.

The effects of clove oil, including its antimicrobial and antifungal properties, have been known and recorded for thousands of years.

Boosting your intake of Omega-3 rich oily fish (mackerel, herring, salmon, tuna, trout, sardines) and other foods rich in Omega-3 fatty acids can have a massive positive healing effects on eczema.

Coconut Oil

Organic Coconut oil is rich in medium-chain fatty acids (MFCA) that destroy free radicals—harmful compounds that trigger skin inflammation that also promote the development of skin cancer. Organic Coconut oil may not cure skin diseases overnight, but the moment the oil is applied to the skin, the microbes on the skin will react with the MFCA, transforming them into free fatty acids that help reduce the chronic inflammation that patients with eczema and psoriasis suffer.Cold-pressed coconut oil is quite rich in lauric acid content, another fatty acid with potent anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory properties. This makes cold-pressed coconut oil the perfect topical treatment for the skin, where most bacteria, viruses and fungi make their initial contact.

On top of its therapeutic properties, coconut oil has strong moisturizing powers, an added benefit for individuals with eczema and psoriasis. Because these skin conditions tend to cause dryness of the skin, the hydrating properties of coconut oil will help restore the natural moisture content of the skin. It rarely causes adverse reactions because it is completely organic and free from harmful chemicals and preservatives.

Taking care of psoriasis from the inside out.

Psoriasis is an autoimmune disease causing an overproduction of skin cells. This results in thickened patches of skin, which are red and scaly and often itchy and painful. The patches most commonly appear on the knees, elbows, scalp, hands, feet, back, fingernails and toenails.

Detoxify the bowels and liver to eliminate a possible overgrowth of Candida albicans or other microbes that may be infecting the body. To do that, be sure to drink plenty of water every day (usually 10 to 12 cups) and supplement with a high quality probiotic supplement.

One of the main gut problems in people with psoriasis appears to be faulty digestion of protein; this, in turn, creates excessive toxicity in the bowel, which weakens the gut lining and allows substances to intoxicate the rest of the body. This can lead to skin problems including psoriasis and other forms of inflammation. A digestive enzyme supplement taken with each main meal should also help. The body naturally produces proteolytic enzymes (which digest protein) but may not be producing enough, so taking a source of these may help.-Look out for a formula containing protease - the broad name for enzymes which digest protein.

Psoriasis is an immune-mediated disease, so it follows that fish oil—if it alters immune reactivity—could improve psoriasis.

Milk thistle stops the breakdown of substances that contribute to psoriasis. Some herbal practitioners suggest tea or tincture made with milk thistle to help alleviate the symptoms of psoriasis.

Lecithin: Lecithin is also considered a remarkable remedy for psoriasis. The patient may take six to nine lecithin capsules a day-two or three capsules before or after each meal. If taken in the form of granules, four tablespoonfuls may be taken daily for two months. The dosage may be reduced thereafter to two tablespoons.

Psorisias and Diet

If your body chemistry is too acid you must eat more alkaline foods to assist psoriasis treatment. You can test your acid/alkaline balance by using simple litmus paper. If your urine is under +7, you are too acid.

Balancing your diet - Acid/Alkaline

When food is metabolised by the body the end products are either acidic or alkaline. Acids are compounds of elements, which give away hydrogen ions, alkalines are compounds of elements which attract hydrogen ions. The body needs both acids and alkalines for its metabolism but we have more difficulty getting rid of acids than alkalines. It is therefore easy for an accumulation of excess acids to occur which can cause us to get rheumatism or skin problems such as psoriasis. To avoid this, aim for a diet which is 70% alkaline and 30% acid. One of the simplest ways to immediately create more alkalinity in your body is to drink so-called superfood powdered drinks. Choose a brand that contains ingredients with high alkaline values such as spinach, broccoli, carrot, wheatgrass, barley grass, chlorella, alfalfa and sprouted grain powders. Many of these ingredients are contained in Green cell Therapy.

Milk thistle, lactobacillus, and digestive enzymes are in Green cell therapy.

Other ingredients:

Light, especially sunlight, has long been known to have healing powers, but it wasn't until the 1980's that science began discovering how specific wavelengths of light could have specific positive effects on human physiology, especially the skin. For instance, today narrowband light is used to treat several skin conditions like acne, psoriasis, eczema, and vitiligo. And light therapy has also found its way into the cosmetic world as an effective method for skin rejuvenation. We have the Omnilux light. Using the Omnilux Plus combined with the Omnilux Revive offers an alternative to the current treatments for psoriasis without the side effects. Clinical studies show impressive reductions in erythema, surface area, and infiltration of plaque psoriasis when treated with Omnilux light therapy only over a 5 wk period.

Sexibalm contains Coconut oil and various essential oils beneficial for psoriasis. Can be used with the Omnilux light to aid penetration.

Tea Tree Oil, also known as melaleuca oil, is renowned for its special remedial properties and has been used by Australian Aborigines for hundreds of years. Apart from chewing on its leaves, the aborigines used it for treating many skin-ailments, such as burns, cuts, and psoriasis! This essential oil is steam-distilled from a tree native to Australia, and acts as an antiseptic, a mild anaesthetic and a disinfectant, thanks to a compound called ‘terpinen-4-ol’. It is so useful that tea-tree oil became standard issue for Australian soldiers during World War 2! It is also great for treating scalp-psoriasis, and can be mixed directly into the shampoo before every wash.

Lavender Oil is a firm favourite for many – it smells just like that perfume your terrifying elderly aunt uses, and it’s great for psoriasis! It is a species of mint that grows in the Mediterranean, and bears very recognisable purple flowers. The plant has anti-inflammatory compounds called linalool and linalyl aldehyde, and also acts as an antiseptic agent. In addition, the University of Maryland Medical Centre has published studies that have demonstrated the benefits of using lavender oil in controlling pain and limiting scaly skin patches.

Coconut oil also helps in treating various skin problems including psoriasis, dermatitis, eczema and other skin infections.

Vitamin E oil, is a natural treatment for Psoriasis. Rubbing Vitamin E directly on the affected skin will help moisturize and heal the skin. This natural oil will also help prevent scarring.

Green tea is already well known to be a powerful anti-inflammatory agent with good astringent properties, which makes it a valuable ingredient in skin cleansers, toners and lotions. If it also "induces capsase 14 production", the missing link in psoriasis, it may be helpful to use a poultice of green tea on such lesions.

Shrinking Fibroids

There are all-natural herbal formula that can support the reduction of estrogen through Chinese herbs.
Aromatase is a key enzyme in the synthesis of estrogen. Specifically, it converts androstenedione into estrone and testosterone into estradiol. For instance, evidence shows that breast cancer and prostate cancer tissues overexpress aromatase. Inhibiting aromatase, therefore, plays an important role in suppressing the deleterious action of estrogen on hormone related conditions. This is why Myomin is so helpful in uterine fibroids and other high estrogen disorders such as endometriosis.

An in vivo study demonstrated that Myomin inhibits the aromatase enzyme in the ectopic endometrium and ovarian tissue of rats. Aromatase was expressed markedly in the untreated ectopic endometrium of the positive control group. On the other hand, aromatase expression significantly decreased in the ectopicendometrium of the Myomin group after 28 days.

Similar to the ectopic endometrium tissue, aromatase expression was remarkably high in the untreated ovaries of the positive control group. After 28 days of therapy with Myomin, aromatase expression was significantly reduced in the ovarian tissue.

Image analysis of both the ectopic endometrium and ovarian tissues yielded elevated aromatase expression in the positive control group (108.9 and 149.8,respectively) in both tissues. After administration with Myomin for 28 days, aromatase expression reduced to 34.7 in the endometrium and 47.0 in the ovary. This translates to a 100% reduction of aromatase expression in the endometrium and an 85.6% reduction in the ovary compared to the negative control group.

Myomin has three functions:

Myomin inhibits the aromatase enzyme, effectively reducing estradiol levels by preventing the conversion of androgens to estrone and estradiol. This allows testosterone and estriol (the good estrogen) to accumulate. Aromatase inhibition has become a worthwhile target in many estrogen-dominant disorders
Myomin competes with estradiol at the estrogen receptors. This function is particularly effective in cases where estrogen receptors are fully stimulated (e.g. after HRT). Competing with estradiol prevents estradiol from binding to receptors. As a result, proliferation of cells is avoided and abnormal growth inhibited.
Myomin increases interferon (IFN) and interleukin-2 (IL-2). IL-2 induces the proliferation of immune cells, enhancing the body's ability to kill tumor cells. IFN stimulates natural killer cells and is active against tumors.
Myomin Reduces Estradiol Levels

One study performed at the Shanghai Medical School illustrates the effect of Myomin on estradiol levels of mice during pregnancy – a period when estradiol levels are especially high. Two groups of 12 mice each were used in the study. One group was used as the control. The other group was given Myomin beginning 15 days into pregnancy. Three days later (on the 18 th day of the study), the average estradiol level of the Myomin group was 7.22pg/ml, approximately seven times less than the control group. After 6 days of taking Myomin (on the 21 st day of the study), their average estradiol level was 8.81pg/ml while it was 85.98 pg/ml for the control group.

In another study, 90 female mice were divided into three groups. Each group was then given Myomin for 30, 60 and 180 days, respectively. The average estradiol levels after each period was 50.6, 36.6, and 32.4 pg/ml, respectively. After 180 days, the estradiol level stabilized. These results demonstrate long-term use of Myomin reduces estradiol in such a way that it maintains around the normal level. No side effects were reported in this study.

A human study involved 60 postmenopausal women with cysts and/or fibroids. Postmenopausal women were studied because their estradiol levels are more stable than those of premenopausal women. Initially, the average estradiol level was 74.52 pg/ml. After only 10 days on Myomin, their average estradiol level reduced to 38.84 pg/ml. The fibroids, cysts and associated pain gradually reduced.

Myomin and Estrogen Dominant Disorders

A study from Chang Hai Hospital involved 75 cases of fibrocystic breasts (70 women ages 18 to 52 years old and 5 men ages 62 to 64 years old). Sixty five percent of the women were under 35 years old. 25 cases were in the control group while 50 cases were in the Myomin group. Results of the study revealed that, in 14 cases, the fibrocystic breast completely cleared after 1 month of taking Myomin while, in 16 cases, the fibrocystic breast reduced 50% in size. Among the five men in the study, the cysts cleared completely in 3 cases. Overall, the effectiveness rate of Myomin is more than 60%, compared to the control group's 12% rate. In the Myomin group, in 48 out of 50 cases, associated pain cleared or tremendously reduced (p value <0.05) while in the control group, pain reduced in only 12 out of 25 cases. A 1994 clinical study was conducted on 255 patients with ovarian cysts and endometriosis. After 5 months, Myomin was effective on 147 patients (57%) while some improvements was observed in 87 patients (34.1%). No effect was observed in only 21 patients. Another study was conducted on both pre- and postmenopausal women with ovarian cysts. In one study from the Chang Hai Hospital in Shanghai, China, 85 female patients with ovarian cysts were involved, with ages ranging from 27to 64 years old (more than 50% of them between 34 and 45 years old). Out of the 85, 40 cases were related to endometriosis (hyatidiform cyst), 44 cases were simple ovarian cysts and 1 was a case of ovarian cancer. After 1 to 3 courses of the herbal formula, the cysts and symptoms of 15 patients completely cleared with no recurrence 3 months after the study. In 34 patients, the size of the cyst reduced by 50% and some of the associated symptoms were relieved. Y. Dikansky, DDS from NY, has a 38 year old female patient with an ovarian cyst for 8 years. The cyst was 3.7x6x2. After 3 months on Myomin, the cyst cleared. A 2000 study at the Shanghai Medical School was performed on 60 patients with small uterine fibroids. It revealed that if Myomin is used in combination with Revivin, it is 69.2% effective on uterine fibroids that exceed 2.5cm³ in size. Another alternative would be to combine Myomin with Angiostop, an angiogenesis inhibitor.

The potential applications of aromatase inhibitors in many health conditions are continually increasing. They have been shown to reduce the risk of recurrent breast cancer, especially when used for a longer period. However, the aromatase inhibitor drugs in the market today are indicated for postmenopausal women only. This is very limiting especially since more and more premenopausal women are developing estrogen-related conditions. It is for this reason that the results of these studies on Myomin are significant. As stated before, Myomin has been used in clinical studies and found to be effective in both premenopausal and postmenopausal women with ovarian cysts, fibrocystic breast and endometriosis as well as in men with fibrocystic breast. It is able to produce these favourable results by inhibiting aromatase and consequently reducing estrogen levels.

Myomin and Men: More Information:
Aromatase inhibition is important in men as well. As men age, testosterone is being more readily converted to estrogen through the aromatase enzyme. Increased estrogen levels can lead to problems such as prostate cancer, prostatitis, and even gynecomastia. Evidence suggests that local aromatase expression in the prostate increases malignancy. In fact, the level of aromatase expression in malignant prostate tissue is comparable to that in breast cancer tissue. As a result, local estrogen levels are also promoted at the prostate tumor site, increasing growth. Aromatase inhibitors like Myomin will help block the action of aromatase, thereby minimizing the depletion of testosterone and reducing estrogen levels.

Myomin for Relief of Menopausal Symptoms

Myomin has also been reported to be effective in reducing the severity and frequency of hot flashes in some women. Although its exact mechanism on this particular function remains to be elucidated, it may be explained by Myomin's ability to compete with estrogen at the cells' estrogen receptors. It should be noted, however, that some women experience worsening of symptoms with Myomin. This is probably due to very low levels of estrogen in these women.

Myomin for Abdominal Fat

An aromatase inhibitor like Myomin can also reduce abdominal fat. Abdominal obesity is associated with decreased testosterone levels (or hypogonadism) and increased estradiol levels. Hypogonadism leads to the deposition of fat in the abdomen. As fat accumulates, aromatase activity increases at the site, causing more testosterone to be converted into estradiol. Taking testosterone or DHEA supplements is not enough because if aromatase is uncontrolled, then testosterone and DHEA will eventually be converted to estradiol. Adding anaromatase inhibitor like Myomin blocks the action of aromatase, effectively preventing the testosterone from being converted into estradiol. This leads to more muscle mass and the loss of abdominal weight.

PriVita contains natural aromatase inhibitors like myomin, but also contains superfoods like pomegranate and resveratrol.  It also contains high ORAC compounds like Green Tea.

Hair growth herbal support for hormonal imbalances

Hair loss affect about 70% of women during perimenopause. The symptoms of perimenopause usually last for the whole menopause transition (until the mid 50's), but some women may experience them for the rest of their life. Menopause is not an illness, but a natural process in a woman's body. The symptoms of menopause are just indicators of changes between the hormones estrogen, testosterone and progesterone. These changes result in a hormonal imbalance in a woman's body and cause the common menopause symptoms. A woman can experience hair loss during other parts of her life also, hormonal imbalance is not always limited to the menopausal transition. Even men experience hair loss during andropause.

Hair loss occurs when the diet is inadequate in the B vitamins - especially B6, biotin, inositol and folic acid; and the minerals magnesium, sulfur and zinc. The B vitamins, especially B5 (pantothenic acid and B3 (niacin), are especially important for hair growth.

Certain essential amino acids are found to control the thinning and thickening of hair in laboratory animals. For example, when rats were fed a diet deficient in magnesium, they lost their hair in bunches. The situation was even more serious with some other B-vitamins. When rats were fed a diet low in biotin or inositol, they became hairless! This nutrient-deficient condition was found to be reversible. When the rats were fed a diet that was rich in B vitamins, it resulted in the complete restoration of hair.

Heavy intake of vitamin supplements, in some cases, have resulted in stimulating hair growth. Men deficient in vitamin B6 often lose their hair. When they are deficient in folic acid, some men became completely bald! As in case of animals, when normal intake of theses vitamins were restored, the hair also returned in most instances.

If your hair loss begins around the onset of menopause, you can maintain hormonal balance (and hence hair thickness) with herbs containing plant-based estrogens, such as dong quai (Angelica sinensis) or ashwaganda (Withania somnifera), suggests Linda Page, N.D., Ph.D., a naturopath and author of Healthy Healing (Healthy Healing Publications, 1997). Other herbs that exert mild estrogenic effects include damiana (Turnera diffusa), black cohosh (Cimicifuga racemosa) and sage (Salvia officinalis).

Some people believe that hair loss is a result of bad genes and stress. These may be true at some point but a healthier and thicker hair won’t just fall off your scalp just like that, right? There are lots of vitamins out there that can make your hair and nails thicker and your skin firmer. Why not start early and naturally thicken your hair strands before they start to get thin and fine?

For example, B vitamins—namely B1, B2, B3, B6, B12, biotin, folic acid, and so on can effectively prevent hair loss if taken regularly. Did you know that the majority of hair loss happens when a person’s diet is deficient in B vitamins? B vitamins are essential for hair regrowth, hair strengthening, and overall hair health, including scalp health. Without B vitamins, old and brittle hair will shed and no new hair follicles are made to replace fallen hair.

Other vitamins and minerals that are important to hair loss prevention include Vitamin A, C, and E and trace minerals such as manganese and zinc. Zinc stimulates hair growth by enhancing our body’s immune function. Vitamin E helps in better blood circulation all over our body, including our scalp. The more freshly oxygenated blood that passes through our scalp, the more the scalp can stimulate hair growth. Manganese controls levels of calcium, which in huge uncontrolled numbers can lead to hair loss.

If there’s one thing in nature that contains all of the above vitamins and minerals that are needed to prevent hair loss, it’s none other than the Acai Berry! Yes, it is one of today’s “super fruits” because of its abundant content of essential vitamins, minerals, and other bio-nutrients.

Essential fatty acids (flaxseed oil, primrose oil, and salmon oil are good sources) improves hair texture. Prevents dry, brittle hair. (Found in Female Balance and Fish oil)

Vitamin C aids in improving scalp circulation. It is important to maintain capillaries that carry blood to the follicles. (Found in Maqui/Resveratrol/Acai Ultimate)

Vitamin E increases oxygen uptake, which improves circulation to the scalp. It improves health and growth of hair. Since hair health is tied to the immune health, vitamin E is believed to stimulate hair growth by enhancing the immune function. (Found in Maqui/Resveratrol/Acai Ultimate)

Deficiency in zinc can contribute a lot to hair shedding because without zinc and other related minerals, you hair shafts get weakened, causing hair breakage and very slow hair regrowth. Zinc benefits for hair include promotion of cell reproduction, tissue growth and repair of broken tissues. It also maintains the oil-secreting glands that are attached to your hair follicles, thus decreasing their chances of falling off. (Zinc is found in Octovite)

Coenzyme Q10 - Improves scalp circulation. Increases tissue oxygenation. It is also very important for heart health. (Found in Fish Oil/Coenzyme Q10)

Incorporating green tea into your diet may help combat or help prevent hair loss. One of the most powerful antioxidants in green tea is epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). Studies conducted by the Saitama Cancer Center Research Institute in Japan and the Seoul National University College of Medicine both show evidence that EGCG stimulates hair growth. (Found in Maqui/Resveratrol/Acai Ultimate)

Ginkgo Biloba has been in use in China for more than 5 centuries, from last 2 decades even Europe is widely using this tree's extracts for various purposes. Ginkgo Biloba possess special property of helping regulate the blood circulation in a body, when the extract is taken. The use of Ginkgo Biloba will boost the blood flow to the peripheral parts of the body and the fine capillaries, both of which indicates scalp as one of the parts. The increased circulation will hence bring more oxygen and more nutrients to the scalp, these nutrients are basically essential vitamins A and E along with some other important nutrients which are in our blood after digestion but are not transported to the right place to act, just because of lack of circulation. So when a hair follicle gets it right amount of oxygen and necessary nutrients it will automatically start hair repair and will promote hair growth. (Octovite contains Gingko Biloba)

If your previous hair growth remedies have not worked, consider a vitamin and herbal combination therapy. Hair loss can be a feature of adrenal fatigue and hypothyroidism, which are other hormonal imbalances. Be sure to consult your practitioner to rule out treatable causes of your hair loss.

Maqui Resveratrol Acai Ultimate has Vitamins A,C,E and Green Tea (and many other ingredients)

Female Balance has Dong Quai, Damiana, Flaxseed, Magnesium and Vitamins A, B, C and E (and many other ingredients)

Rhodigandha contains Ashwagandha, Rhodiola, Acai, Pomegranate, Blueberry, and Bilberry

Gallstones in pregnancy... natural support

The gallbladder is a sac located under the liver. It stores and concentrates bile produced in the liver. Bile aids in the digestion of fats, and is released from the gallbladder into the upper small intestine (duodenum) in response to food, especially fats.

The majority of gallstones are formed from cholesterol (which comprises only about 5% of bile) and grow because the liver begins secreting bile that is unusually saturated with cholesterol. The cholesterol then crystallizes to form stones while in storage in the gallbladder.

You can have gallstones without any symptoms. However, if the stones are large, they can block the duct that leads from the gallbladder. This can cause pain and require treatment. At first they may block the duct and move away, causing only occasional pain. Continuous blockage of the duct, however, can be life threatening and requires surgical removal of the gallbladder.

Gallbladders that cause pain are usually removed. There are no known problems caused by living without a gallbladder. Today, most gallbladder surgeries are performed with a laparoscope. This instrument shows the surgeon pictures of your gallbladder as it is being removed. The minimally invasive procedure allows for a smaller incision and a shorter hospital stay than traditional surgery.

Some drugs can dissolve stones, eliminating the need for surgery. However, it can take 2 years for a stone to dissolve, and gallstones often recur later.

Signs and Symptoms:

Pain, mostly on the upper right side of the abdomen
Pain following meals, intolerance of fatty foods
Nausea, vomiting
Loss of appetite

1. One of the simplest things you can do to prevent and help flush your gallstones is drink plenty of water. Water will help maintain the water content of bile and also keep the gallbladder flushed. You should try to drink water throughout the whole day. A good rule of thumb would be 2 glasses of water for every 2 hours you are awake.

2. Your diet is also extremely important. Research has shown us that the best diet you can have if you suffer from gallstones is a low-fat and high fiber diet. This diet is also conducive to losing weight which is also beneficial for flushing and preventing gallstones. Research shows that if you are overweight, your chance of this disease increases.

Avoid coffee
Avoid fried foods, especially those that are deep-fried
Avoid carbonated beverages such as colas and sodas.
Avoid artificial additives, sweeteners, colorings and preservatives.

Eat small meals
Increase intake of steamed vegetables, long and short grain brown rice.
Increase intake of broiled fish
Fresh vegetables and fruits as well as juices.
Apple butter instead of jam.
Yogurt, low-fat Kefir and cottage cheese.

3. A diet that flushes your gallbladder is one rich in water soluble dietary fiber. You should immediately supplement at least 5-7 servings of fruits and vegetables. Vegetables with plenty of chlorophyll are also helpful.

4. Digestive enzymes- Take capsules at least 15 minutes before each meal. You will need to take enzymes for the rest of your life in order to digest fat so your digestive system does not get overloaded.

5. Peppermint Leaf- Preliminary clinical trials suggest that formulas containing peppermint and related terpenes (fragrant substances found in plants) can dissolve gallstones. A number of studies indicate that peppermint may aid in reducing the size of gallstones and thus help some people avoid surgery. Also known as a muscle relaxant and reduces inflammation.

6. Ginger Root- Shrinks liver tumors in animal testing. Also, impairs cholesterol absorption and stimulates the conversion of cholesterol to bile acids which further cleanses the liver and gall bladder. Ginger also inhibits platelet aggregation.

7. Fennel Seed- Helps open obstructions of the liver, gall bladder and spleen to ease painful swellings. Fennel is also used to treat yellow jaundice, the gout and occasional cramps. Fennel seed has been used for centuries as a tasty culinary herb and also for its health properties. It can help to ease flatulence, assist with colic and aid indigestion. For the nursing mom, Fennel can help to increase the body in producing breast milk, It also works as an antispasmodic and has anti-inflammatory properties.

8. Green tea (Camelia sinensis) standardized extract, 250 - 500 mg daily, for antioxidant effects. You may also prepare teas from the leaf of this herb. Note: green tea extracts may contain caffeine. Look for decaffeinated products.

9. Milk thistle (Silybum marianum) seed standardized extract, 80 - 160 mg 2 - 3 times daily, for liver and galbladder detoxification support.

10. The dandelion is a member of the sunflower family. For many years, dandelion has been used to cure a variety of ailments, including liver, kidney, gallbladder, and joint problems. Some believe that Dandelion can help with eczema, poor digestion, and diseases of the liver. Dandelion is a stimulant to the urinary organs, and can be used as a diuretic (the leaf) or a hepatic (the root). Chinese herbal traditions suggest taht dandelion can help with other conditions, such as jaundice, hepatitis, and problems with swelling of the eyes.

The above remedies are appropriate for pregnant or non-pregnant women, although there are additional modalities available to non-pregnant women.

These suggestions would also work for people who have fatty liver in pregnancy

Fibromyalgia herbal ideas for relief of symptoms

There are no known cures for fibromyalgia, due to the fact that the cause is unknown. Theories suggest the condition may be due to chemical or hormone imbalances.

However there are treatments that can help alleviate the various fibromyalgia symptoms.

Counseling
Exercise (especially yoga)
Nutrition therapy
Detoxification (Like Parasite Cleansing, Colon Cleansing)
Herbal Therapy

Herbs can be used to help alleviate fibromyalgia by reducing inflammation, stimulating hormones, providing immune system support and eliminating pain.

Herbal remedies are often used effectively in people suffering from fibromyalgia. Herbs can help to treat the wide range of symptoms produced by the syndrome, including:

depression
fatigue and sleep disorders
widespread muscle pain
immune deficiency

St. John's Wort St. John's wort is a natural antidepressant and influences the adrenal gland hormones to help relieve stress. St. John's wort affects nerves and is effective for sharp, shooting nerve pains. It also has antiviral properties. (Caution: Do not take if you are taking conventional antidepressants.)

*Echinacea and Borage Oil are remedies that have been tried. Willow bark has anti-inflammatory properties and has been used as a painkiller.

*Magnesium is a mineral found naturally in foods such as green leafy vegetables, nuts, seeds, and whole grains and in nutritional supplements. Magnesium is needed for more than 300 biochemical reactions. Magnesium, along with malic acid (a fruit acid found naturally in apples) are often suggested for people with fibromyalgia because they are both needed for the generation of energy in cells in the form of adenosine triphosphate (ATP).

*The supplement 5-HTP is thought to work by increasing levels of the neurotransmitter serotonin in the brain. There is preliminary evidence that it may reduce the number of tender points in people with fibromyalgia, possibly by effecting pain-modulating systems in the brainstem.

This supplement also contains Passionflower which Helps with insomnia, stress, and anxiety.
Valerian, chamomile, and passionflower in combination can be more effective than valerian alone for improved sleep. All three are also contained in Herbalith

Green foods should be added for optimal nutrition. (My green foods supplement contains Quercetin, digestive enzymes, CoQ10, Grape seed extract, Alpha Lipoic acid, lactobacillus and astragalus) see "GREEN CELL THERAPY"

Astragalus-Astragalus has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for centuries. Its main use has been to boost the body's immune system

Alpha Lipoic acid is very useful for enhancing the body's utilization of carbohydrates and enhancing energy. Take 100 milligrams three times daily.

Grape-seed extracts are natural anti-inflammatories that help to ease pain

Quercetin is a bioflavonoid considered to have excellent properties as a natural antihistimine and allergy-fighter.

People with fibromyalgia or chronic fatigue syndromes that have started a digestive enzyme regime often show and improvement in their symptoms. This is because the regimen provides enzymes that the body lacks, and promotes cell nutrition by nourishing the nervous system and digestive system.

Coenzyme Q10 is also an antioxidant and helps deliver oxygen to cells. (It can be found in combination with Fish oil or Omega-3 fatty acids)

Omega-3 Fatty Acids - especially those found in fish oil, omega-3 fatty acids can decrease inflammation and allergic response.

The scientific community will continue to discover more specific causes for auto immune disorders but at present there are four significant factors that have been proven to cause fibromyalgia like symptoms, they are:
1. Viral infections
2. Parasite infestations
3. Bacterial infections
4. Intestinal yeast infections

OCTOCLEANSE Herbal Parasite Detox may be of interest to you it contains:
Black walnut aid in removing parasites.
Paud'arco, taken in tea or tablet form, is good for treating candida infection.

Antioxidants help reduce free-radical damage and fight inflammation. Take a good antioxidant formula that provides daily:

5,000 to 10,000 International Units of vitamin A
Up to 10,000 milligrams of buffered vitamin C
400 to 800 international units of vitamin E
200 micrograms of selenium.

OCTOVITE Ultimate Herbal Antioxidant contains A, C, E in addition to:

Gingko Biloba-Ginkgo biloba stimulates circulation, particularly in the brain. Because of the increase circulation and oxygenation of the brain cells, produced by the extract from ginkgo leaves, this plant has given excellent results for combating fatigue.

Ginseng-Siberian ginseng is an energizing herb that can help resolve the fatigue associated with fibromyalgia.

Fibromyalgia pain is thought to be produced by a combination of factors. These fibromyalgia factors include imbalances in brain and body chemistry. Disturbed sleep, a symptom of fibromyalgia, is also thought to be a cause. Though the degree of pain fibromyalgia can produce varies with individual sufferers, it's not progressive or debilitating. However, chronic fibromyalgia pain sets off a chain reaction of physical and mental side effects. The persistent stress of chronic fibromyalgia pain can affect the nervous and immune system. Coping with chronic fibromyalgia pain can also bring on depression and cause the brain to perceive even more pain.

What I have recommended to patients, is to maintain health with natural pain relievers that also boost the immune system.
Resveratrol, a phytochemical derived from grape skin, is also abundant in members of the Polygonum genus, widely used in traditional Chinese herbal medicine. The anti-inflammatory effects of resveratrol were first described in 1997 after an animal model determined its primary activity to be the inhibition of COX-1. Then a study led by some of the same researchers from Cornell Medical College in New York City revealed resveratrol's COX-2 inhibitory effects.
Green Tea is also in this supplement. There is a compound in green tea called epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) that University of Michigan researchers found to alleviate arthritis pain.

Maqui/Resveratrol/Acai Ultimate is a supplement that contains both of these ingredients. This product underwent ORAC analysis at Brunswick Labs.

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia respond to many of the same treatments. Fibromyalgia (FM) and chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) have many similarities. Although the two illnesses have many symptoms in common, the most prevalent symptom of FM is widespread pain while the primary symptom of CFS is extreme fatigue that does not improve with rest.

Hunger on the Beta HCG diet

Some people are still hungry on the Beta HCG diet.

Make sure you are drinking 2 liters of water daily.

Space your meals so you do not go more than three hours without eating
i.e eat your lunch at 11 (meat and vegetable), then your fruit at two, then your dinner (meat and vegetable at five, and your other fruit at eight.

Other helpful strategies:

1. drink cinnamon tea, green tea, or hoodia tea. Other teas to try include Alfalfa, burdock, nettles. Make sure your tea is unsweetened. Fragrant teas like earl grey or lavender tea can also trick your body into thinking it has consumed dessert, thereby staving off the temptation to cheat.

Honeybush tea
Studies have shown that honeybush tea:
-Eases constipation.
-Is an inexpensive method of losing weight as it staves off hunger pangs and reduces water retention.
-Is caffeine free and has a soothing effect on the central nervous system.
-Has been traditionally used to treat cough as it contains piniton, a modified sugar that is used to make cough syrups. Piniton also lowers blood sugar levels and is currently being developed by pharmaceuticals as a prescription drug for diabetics.
-It can also be applied to the skin to soothe skin irritations.
-Contains anti-oxidants that help lower blood lipids (fatty substances).
-Contains elements that are known to prevent breast cancer, prostate cancer and uterine cancer.
-It keeps high cholesterol levels in the blood under control.
-Consists of elements that are used in the treatment of menopausal symptoms.
-It is rich in minerals such as iron, potassium, calcium, copper, zinc, magnesium, manganese, and sodium.

2. take a chromium supplement to stabilize your blood glucose level
In 1959, chromium was first identified as an element that enables the hormone insulin to function properly. Since then, chromium has been studied for diabetes and has become a popular dietary supplement.

The Fat Burner supplement also contains cinnamon and green tea extract.
