Orac value of different foods allowed in the Beta HCG diet

Orac value of different foods allowed in the Beta HCG diet

ORAC Values are the most common standard of measuring the antioxidant capacity of fruits and vegetables. ORAC stands for Oxygen Radical Absorbency Capacity. This standard has been adopted by the US Department of Agriculture, and has come to be accepted as some kind of "official" standard.

ORAC values measure the time an antioxidant takes to react to free radicals, as well as the amount of antioxidants in the specific food. It combines these elements into one measurement.

Foods with a higher ORAC value, in general, have a greater antioxidant potential than those with low values. The foods that tend to rank the highest in ORAC values are fruits with bright pigmentation: berries, red grapes, cherries and apples are some examples.

Based on scientific evidence, daily antioxidant intake should increase to 3,000 to 5,000 ORAC units per day to reach a significant antioxidant capacity in blood plasma and other tissues. According to the U. S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), current intake is about 1,200 units per day.

One can still obtain the 3000-5000 ORAC recommended on this diet, if you include herbs in your seasoning, and combine your foods for maximum effect. One can also drink herbal tea.

Tea has a high ORAC score: USDA researchers, using a test tube measure called ORAC, found that an 8-ounce serving of black or green tea is more effective in neutralizing free radicals than individual servings of more than 33 commonly consumed fruits and vegetables.

The Seven Super Spices (so christened by spice manufacturer McCormick) include cinnamon, ginger, oregano, red pepper (including chile powder, crushed red pepper flakes and paprika), rosemary, thyme and yellow curry. Even better, all of these are easy to implement into your regular eating habits: Try cinnamon on your breakfast cereal, oregano and red pepper on lunchtime soup or pizza, and rosemary makes dinnertime mashed or roasted potatoes that much better. Or you can start from scratch and follow one of the recipes provided here. See our ORAC comparison chart below, then check out each spice’s page for more information and recipes.

Antioxidant products, increase your ORAC naturally

Antioxidants are vitamins, minerals, and other compounds found in foods that can help slow down or prevent the oxidation process. Antioxidants help prevent or repair damage done to the body's cells by free radicals.

Several theories have been proposed to account for age-related changes in cell functioning and physiological capability. The free radical theory is perhaps the strongest and best-established theory scientifically to account for many age-related changes. Free radicals are molecules with one or more unpaired electrons; they seek stability by taking electrons from other molecules (a process called oxidation). As a consequence, free radicals damage the molecules from which they take electrons, leading to cell damage, impaired functioning, and even cell death. The prime molecules in the body that are damaged by free radicals are DNA, lipids, and proteins. I found these products.

Maqui/Resveratrol/Acai the powerful antioxidant

This vitamin is all natural. Most of the ingredients can be found in a variety of foods such as cranberries, grapes, and blueberries. It provides a blend of the highest quality antioxidants that are known to fight cancer, joint inflammation, and cardiovascular disease. It also has a blend of the most effective weight loss supplements and aids on the market today. Resveratrol is thought to have some estrogenic activity, so if you are dealing with hot flashes and wish to avoid hormones, it would be a good supplement. Resveratrol is also thought to have blood sugar lowering properties. The Macqui is the highest antioxidant value of any known fruit. It helps to support healthy inflammatory functions, and healthy aging. This supplement also contains green tea and grapeseed extract.

The secret of green tea lies in the catechin polyphenols, particularly epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). This substance is a powerful anti-oxidant which means that it inhibits the growth of cancer cells. It is proven that it is at least 100 more times more effective than vitamin C and 25 times more effective than vitamin E at protecting cells and DNA from damage believed to be linked to cancer, heart disease and other serious illnesses.

Besides that it also:

• kills cancer cells without harming healthy tissue
• is effective in lowering LDL cholesterol levels
• inhibits the abnormal formation of blood clots
I have recommended this supplement for my patients with bursitis, arthritis, and other inflammatory conditions, and they have reported improvement with those conditions.

Grapeseed extract is prescribed by doctors in Europe for a variety of vascular disorders, collagen damage, water retention and arthritis. Grape seed extract also helps to reduce or eliminate the symptoms of leg cramps, varicose veins, diabetes, and numbness in the extremities
