Shopping for a yeast free diet

What is Candida?

Candida is a controversial term because most of the medical professionals deny its existence making it very difficult to get a medical diagnosis of Candida. But many of Western Medical Doctors/ Naturopaths are beginning to recognize it. So, if you feel this can be a part of your case history, find a doctor who best represents your needs.

Candida is the popular term for Candidiasis (yeast overgrowth) - a condition first identified by American physicians in the 1970s. Moderate amounts of Candida (and other yeast) live in every one of us without causing any harm, but when given free rein to grow (when intestinal bacteria is killed by antibiotics, drugs, NSAID’s, alcohol and other items listed below) it leaves an opportunity for invaders to recolonize the intestines. Once Candida mutates, it begins to break down the intestinal lining and eventually breaks through the intestinal wall. Once through the intestinal wall it now moves through the bloodstream and anywhere blood travels (organs, tissues, joints, bones etc.)

Contributory factors to Candida over Growth:
use of the contraceptive pill or HRT
· use of natural progesterone cream
· use of other steroids (hydrocortisone, prednisolone etc.)
· use of immune-suppressive drugs
· repeated use of broad-spectrum antibiotics e.g. for acne
· dental mercury amalgam poisoning
· other heavy metal poisoning e.g. lead, cadmium
· chemical poisoning from the home, garden, workplace etc.
· hormonal changes e.g. puberty, pregnancy, menopause and Stress

 1. FatBurner - helps you eat less sugar and contains chromium, cinnamon, green tea Many people with Type I and Type II diabetes are deficient in chromium. In cases of low levels of chromium, supplementing with extra chromium could make a difference in balancing blood sugar levels. Cinnamon: This spice is a powerful anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal and anti-microbial agent. In laboratory tests, growth of yeasts that were resistant to the commonly used anti-fungal medication fluconazole was often stopped by cinnamon extracts.

 2. Octocleanse is an herbal yeast and parasite detox. It contains natural herbs including some that help with yeast: Pau D' Arco, garlic, and grapefruit combat yeast while the other ingredients in this formula get to work on viruses, parasites and bacteria. Caprylic acid kills yeast in one phase of it's growth,  Other ingredients and their actions include:

OLIVE LEAF EXTRACT— Exhibits a myriad of medicinal uses used for centuries. The leaves have shown to have significant anti-microbial action, and are an effective agent against resistant strains of fungi which includes (yeast, Candida, viruses and bacteria).
PAU D’ARCO— Has shown to successfully treat fungal conditions such as athletic foot, and yeast infections such as Candida. It has a mild laxative effect that makes it useful for chronic constipation. It has also shown promise in patients with arthritis, peptic ulcers, and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. GRAPEFRUIT WHOLE POWDER— Is primary used as a treatment for vaginal yeast infections caused by Candida and the intestinal condition known as Candida Overgrowth Syndrome. It is also used to kill strep, staph, salmonella, e-coli, influenza, parasites, herpes, fungi and travelers diarrhea. HYSSOP (WILD OREGANO)— The leaves, dried herb and volatile oil are used medicinally. A test tube study demonstrated that oil of oregano inhibited the growth of Candida Albicans effectively.

 3. Dr. Comeaux's COQ10 with Omega 3 Dietary Supplement, 60 softgels Consuming fish oil capsules can also contribute to the detoxification process because they contain natural triglyceride lipids that facilitate expelling of toxins with the bowel movement. CoQ10 may help with energy while you are giving up sugar.

Mushroom coffee, ganoderma, cordyceps

Medicinal mushrooms are mushrooms used in the practice of medicine.

Many species of mushrooms have been used in folk medicine for thousands of years and is best documented in the East. Medicinal mushrooms are now being studied by many ethno botanists and medical researchers. The ability of some of these mushrooms to inhibit tumor growth and enhance aspects of the immune system has been a subject of research for approximately the past 50 years. Preclinical studies suggest that compounds from up to 200 species of mushrooms may inhibit or slow down tumor growth, but required dosage and effects on humans is mostly unknown. Fungus research has led to the discovery of many pharmaceutical drugs, including penicillin, ciclosporin, griseofulvin, cephalosporin, ergometrine as well as the popular statin class of cholesterol reducing drugs. What Is Ganoderma? More commonly known as reishi, ganoderma is a hard, bitter mushroom used to promote health and longevity in traditional Chinese medicine. Proponents claim that ganoderma can relieve fatigue, keep cholesterol in check, curb high blood pressure, tame inflammation, build stamina, and support the immune system. It can be consumed as a delicious coffee. OrganoGold

 Cordyceps Fungus Health Benefits

Although written record of Cordyceps sinensis use appeared in Traditional Chinese Medicine centuries ago, it wasn't really noticed in the West until recently. The last two decades have seen a great increase in research on cordyceps as a medicinal mushroom.

There are many reported cordyceps health benefits.

Some of these include:
 Cholesterol reduction
Stimulation of the immune system
Faster recovery from bronchitis and respiratory diseases
Increased efficiency and stamina of the circulatory system
Anti-tumor properties
Liver protection and enhanced recovery from chemotherapy
Sexual potentiator (Hmmmm......)
A general body adaptogen, resulting in more energy, strength, and stamina
The reasons behind some of these benefits are still not fully understood.
Yet research has found some promising proof behind cordyceps claims.
A few of the helpful constituents found are:
Sterols - Alcohols of the steroid group. Believed to lower cholesterol, reduce the risk of heart disease, and possibly have some anti-tumor properties.
Polysaccharides - Complex carbohydrates made up of chains of sugars. Known to stabilize blood pressure, have an effect on free radicals, and stimulate the immune system. cordyceps coffee

Natural suggestions for hirsutism

For Hirsutism:

Therapy is threefold:

 1) inhibition of androgen production;

 2) inhibition of androgen action and

 3) local treatment.

Cause of hirsutism Natural and alternative therapy

 1. Exercise and weight loss could be very beneficial. Dietary changes that may improve insulin resistance are the primary emphasis with a reduction of refined carbohydrates and total calories, while increasing the high fiber foods of vegetables, legumes and whole grains. Many individuals with PCOS will respond to a diet that is not more than 80 gm/day of carbohydrates, and 60-90 gm per day of protein.

 2. Inositol supplement could be helpful in reducing signs and symptoms of hirsutism.

 3. Myo Inositol supplement as natural hirsutism treatment

Treatment of hirsutism with myo-inositol: a prospective clinical study. Reprod Biomed Online. 2008. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of myo-inositol treatment in hirsute women. Forty-six hirsute women were evaluated at baseline and after receiving myo-inositol therapy for 6 months. Body mass index (BMI), hirsutism, serum concentrations of total cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, triglycerides, apolipoprotein B, lipoprotein(a), serum adrenal and ovarian androgens, fasting glucose and insulin concentrations were evaluated. No changes in BMI were observed. The hirsutism decreased after therapy. Total androgens, FSH and LH concentrations decreased while estradiol concentrations increased. There was a slight non-significant decrease in total cholesterol concentrations, an increase in HDL cholesterol concentrations and a decrease in LDL cholesterol

 4. Herbal remedies for many conditions including hirsutism are gaining a lot of popularity all over the world. You could use natural home remedies for hirsutism in combination with traditional medication, to expedite the treatment. Some of the herbs that help reduce the severity of hirsutism include:
Black cohosh and Chaste tree...  These herbs plus other nutrients and vitamins are contained in Female Balance Ultimate.

 5. Laser hair removal is one of the most commonly done cosmetic procedures in the U.S. It beams highly concentrated light into hair follicles. Pigment in the follicles absorb the light. That destroys the hair. Ninety percent of patients have permanent hair loss after an average of three to five sessions. Radiancy Nono hair removal

In some women, acne may be a sign of polycstic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). PCOS is hormonal imbalance disorder characterised by irregular periods, hirsutism and acne. Acne, in this case, usually breaks out in the chin area and around the jaw.
PCOS must be addressed in order to resolve the acne problem. It is frequently due to estrogen dominance.  In this case, an estrogen blocker may help to reduce symptoms. For PCOS and estrogen dominance, Privita can be useful.

Kidney Stone Suggestions

The easiest way to prevent kidney stones is to drink lots of water—two to three quarts a day.

Kidney stones are hard masses of minerals that begin as tiny crystals and grow over time. Although most stones are small enough to pass through the urinary tract undetected, larger ones may become lodged in the ureters (the tubes connecting the kidneys and the bladder), blocking urinary flow and causing extreme pain. Dehydration contributes to stone formation by increasing the concentration of the waste products in the urine that contribute to kidney stone formation. Do not underestimate the power of this simple therapy. Eight to 12 glasses of water may seem like a lot, but it provides potent protection.

If you already have kidney stones, check this out...

The synergistic natural ingredients in RENAVIVE® are very unique. Their action is to work on the surface of the kidney stone to dissolve it into smaller and smaller particles and then help support the kidney’s own elimination functions to safely eliminate micro particles through the urine.

RENAVIVE® is specifically formulated to help with ALL types of kidney stones NO MATTER THE LOCATION, including the 4 main types - while thoroughly cleansing the kidneys.

Calcium Oxalate Most common, stones formed due to excess calcium & oxalates in the urine

Uric acid Stones formed due to excess acid in the urine, usually caused by eating too much meat

Struvite Stones formed after urinary infections and typically consist of magnesium and ammonia

Cystine Rare and genetic, stones formed by buildup of cystine in urine

Harvard researchers found that taking 180 mg of magnesium along with 10 mg of vitamin B6 daily reduced stone formation by 92.3 percent per year! Another study showed about a 90 percent reduction with magnesium alone (500 mg daily).

D chiro inositol in Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome

Inositol is a fundamental part of every cell. It combines with many other nutrients to perform a great variety of functions. Inositol can aid in reducing blood levels of cholesterol, reverse nerve damage from diabetes, help breakdown and redistribute body fat, maintain proper levels of the brain’s neurotransmitters, relieve depression, reduce obsessive/compulsive disorder (OCD), lower blood pressure and even help prevent hair loss.

How can one nutrient do so much?

Because it’s an essential part of how cells communicate with one another.

The role of D-chiro-inositol in Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)

DCI is used during insulin signal transduction, the body’s response to insulin. If DCI is deficient, insulin resistance can develop. There is evidence that women with PCOS do not make enough DCI and many women with PCOS are insulin resistant. This deficiency leads to too much testosterone and the symptoms of PCOS. In clinical trials, adding DCI as a supplement has been shown to address this deficiency and reduce the symptoms of PCOS.

Menopause food ideas

Want a better menopause than your mom had? Here’s a simple, easy tasty tip: start eating food and herbs that work with your body’s estrogen production now! Phytoestrogenic food and herbs help your body avoid dramatic crashes in estrogen levels that have been linked to more intense hot flashes and other menopause symptoms. Every day eat herbs and foods that can ease the effects of your ovaries’ irregular declining estrogen production during your menopause transition years.

Millions of American women suffer from hot flashes during menopause, but not many realize that diet can have a lot to do with it. During menopause, women are undergoing hormonal changes that can disrupt sleep, stress them out and make them tired, three things also associated with weight gain. Willpower goes down the tube when people are stressed and they will not do all the good things they should do be doing like eating properly and exercising. It all can add up to the muffin top effect: that shift of weight to the abdomen that makes clothes fit poorly, if at all, and that stresses out a woman every time she gets dressed.

Everyone does not want to take hormones as they are going through menopause.  Many people do not want to be on a handful of supplements for that matter.  I have developed suggestions to help women incorporate recipes into their diet, that contain hormone and mood balancing properties.

Some examples:

*Flaxseeds are estrogenic, and contain essential fatty acids that are good for skin.
*Horny goat promotes healthy libido.
*Lavender is a calming, relaxing herb.
*Snack bars fortified with soy phytochemicals for hot flashes in menopausal women

There are two main types of phytoestrogens – and some foods have both: (1) isoflavones (cooked beans (e.g. yellow split peas, black turtle beans, red kidney beans and red lentils), whole grains, leafy greens (cooked parsley, nettle, cabbage, broccoli, kale, mustard greens, collards, lamb’s quarters, seaweeds and rhubarb stalks, tofu) and (2) lignans (flaxseeds and other edible seeds, whole grains, seaweed (alaria, dulse, hijiki, kelp, kombu, nori, wakame), fruit & berries)

Try to incorporate some of the following items into your diet.  They are all mentioned in my upcoming e-book "Why is my Head on Fire", which includes recipes and supplement ideas for women trying to make the transition naturally.  We want this to be a smooth transition.

Check back often, as I update this blog as new products emerge.
