Home Gym ideas to help your weight loss efforts

Do you have a gym membership that you never use?

While working out at the gym has its benefits, home fitness offers many benefits as well. Not only can you save money in the long-term, but some people may see better results faster because they are more comfortable working out at home and it's more convenient. To acheive the results you're looking for, think about whether home fitness or gym workouts work best with your lifestyle. Or enjoy the best of both worlds by alternating your home and gym workouts.

 The Benefits of Home Fitness:

Saves Time
Home workouts eliminate the time needed to drive to the gym. And at home, you never have to wait in line to use the machine you want.

Saves Money Over time, investing in home fitness equipment is more cost effective than monthly gym membership dues. If your gym membership is $40/month, you end up spending $480/year. With the amount you would spend on gym fees in a few years, you could invest in a piece of home fitness equipment that would last you a lifetime.

Personal Space/Privacy
Some people are reluctant to work out in front of others. When you have a home gym or cardio equipment at home, you can sweat away without worrying about people watching you or feeling like they're judging your progress.

Don't Worry How You Look
You can wear whatever you want and there's no need to spend money on the fancy workout gear anymore.

More Consistent
Often times the above benefits of a home fitness gym encourages you to be more consistent with your workouts offering quicker, better results.

Appliance ideas for a low cholesterol diet

The American Heart Association recommends eating no more than six ounces of cooked lean meat, poultry, fish or seafood a day for people who need 2,000 calories. Most meats have about the same amount of cholesterol, roughly 70 milligrams in each three-ounce cooked serving (about the size of a deck of cards). But the amount of saturated fat in meats can vary widely, depending on the cut and how it's prepared. Here are some ways to reduce the saturated fat in meat: Select lean cuts of meat with minimal visible fat. Lean beef cuts include the round, chuck, sirloin or loin. Lean pork cuts include the tenderloin or loin chop, while lean lamb cuts come from the leg, arm and loin. Buy "choice" or "select" grades rather than "prime." Select lean or extra lean ground beef. Trim all visible fat from meat before cooking. Broil rather than pan-fry meats such as hamburger, lamb chops, pork chops and steak.

Use a rack to drain off fat when broiling, roasting or baking. The Nu Wave oven pro cooks using these methods. By using racks, it releases up to 250% more fat drippings than a regular conventional oven. Plus no added fats or oils are required. Instead of basting with drippings, keep meat moist with wine, fruit juices or an acceptable oil-based marinade. Showtime Ronco Rotisserie Oven

Cook a day ahead of time. Stews, boiled meat, soup stock or other dishes in which fat cooks into the liquid can be refrigerated. Then the hardened fat can be removed from the top. Eat chicken and turkey rather than duck and goose, which are higher in fat. Remove the skin from chicken or turkey, preferably before cooking. If your poultry dries out too much, leave the skin on for cooking but remove before eating. Limit processed meats such as sausage, bologna, salami and hot dogs. Many processed meats — even those with "reduced fat" labels — are high in calories and saturated fat. They are often high in sodium as well. Eat more seafood.

Try meatless meals featuring vegetables or beans — think eggplant lasagna, a big grilled portobello mushroom on a bun in place of a burger, or beans-n-weenies without the weenies. Or think of meat as a condiment in casseroles, stews, soups and spaghetti — use it sparingly, just for flavor, rather than as a main ingredient. The cholesterol in eggs is all in the yolks --- without the yolk, egg whites are a heart-healthy source of protein. Many recipes calling for whole eggs come out just as good when you use egg whites or cholesterol-free egg substitute instead of whole eggs. Replace each whole egg with two egg whites. For baking, you may want to add a tablespoon or less of liquid vegetable oil such as canola, safflower, sunflower or soybean for a moister consistency. Increase fiber and whole grains. Use olive oil or grapeseed oil instead of butter to sautee your vegetables, or grill them halogen infrared oven,George Forman grill countertop

Resveratrol containing supplements by Vita Doc

Resveratrol seems to be everywhere in the news these days. But another plant-based chemical, quercetin, is beginning to attract attention from researchers as well.

Recent studies suggest that resveratrol and quercetin might actually be more effective when taken together. Both resveratrol and quercetin are polyphenols, a group of antioxidant chemicals found in many fruits and vegetables.

An antioxidant is a compound that destroys free radicals in the body, those atoms with unpaired electrons that cause damage to tissues and cells as they roam the body scavenging electrons from other atoms. The polyphenols have been found to have such health benefits as lowering LDL (bad) cholesterol in the body, and reducing the risk of heart disease and cancer.

In fact, many scientists believe that the polyphenols may be some of our most powerful natural agents for the prevention of chronic diseases of aging, and even for slowing the aging process. Resveratrol is found in the skins and seeds of red and purple grapes, and in dark-colored berries and peanuts; good sources of quercetin are onions, especially red onions, and the skins of apples. Significant quantities of both quercetin and resveratrol are present in red wine. Although both resveratrol and quercetin are polyphenols, of the two, only quercetin is classed as a flavonoid. These plant pigments provide color in fruits, vegetables, and flowers and wine as well. Some recent research has suggested that quercetin boosts resveratrol. Impressive as the effects of resveratrol may be alone, they may be enhanced by working together with quercetin. For example, in a 2008 in vitro (test tube) study (Yang et al.), researchers investigated the effects of various combinations of quercetin and resveratrol on adipogenesis and apoptosis. Adipogenesis is the formation of fat cells, or adipocytes; and apoptosis is the process of programmed cell death, by which the body rids itself of old, unhealthy, or excess cells.

When maturing fat cells were treated with resveratrol and quercetin separately, resveratrol suppressed fat accumulation by 9%, while quercetin suppressed it by 15%. However, when given in combination, fat accumulation in the cells was decreased by more than 68%. In addition, resveratrol and quercetin, administered individually, induced programmed cell death in mature fat cells by 18% and 15%, respectively. Given together, they increased apoptosis in mature adipocytes more than the single compounds did. These data may have significant implications for the development of products using resveratrol and quercetin for weight loss. The researchers stated, Taken together, our data indicate that combinations of resveratrol and quercetin can exert potential anti-obesity effects by inhibiting differentiation of preadipocytes and inducing apoptosis of mature adipocytes. Some research scientists believe that the combination of resveratrol and quercetin may not be the only synergistic possibility.

It may be that a group of five compounds can work together in synergy to offer protection against heart disease and cancer. Resveratrol and quercetin, vitamin E, vitamin C, and selenium (a trace mineral) are being investigated together with this goal in mind. Privita contains resveratrol and quercetin.  It is blended with other compounds with estrogen blocker and aromatase activity. Maqui/Resveratrol/Acai Ultimate contains resveratrol with vitamin E, vitamin C, green tea and selenium.

Protein water replacement ideas

Perhaps the most popular use for protein shakes is to help build muscle mass. By simply taking one look at most of the protein supplements at your local health food store or GNC, you'll find that this is certainly the case. However, individuals shouldn't look at protein shakes as the secret to adding on muscle bulk in a fast and easy way. Instead, protein shakes should be utilized very carefully for the purpose of gaining muscle. The best way to do this is to drink a protein shake directly after exercising, preferably within 30 minutes of the conclusion of your workout. This helps your body to recover while also providing the protein needed to fuel your body. Another reason that people use protein shakes is to help with weight loss. These shakes may be effective for helping people to lose weight, but only when used in moderation. The reason protein shakes can be effective for this is because protein is broken down more slowly by your digestive system, helping you to feel fuller for longer while also providing you with ongoing energy throughout the day. Protein shakes alone cannot replace a person's food intake, but many people find that drinking a protein shake for breakfast or for lunch can help them to cut down on calories without feeling hungry and tired during the day. If you are thinking about utilizing protein shakes to lose weight, then keep in mind that you should also be eating a balanced diet and working out if you want to see real results. Furthermore, pay attention to the caloric content of whichever protein shake you choose to help you lose weight. Protein shakes also have a few additional uses, which are less common but just as effective. For some people who have trouble getting a sufficient amount of protein in their diet, a protein shake can be an easy way to get them the necessary protein intake. For example, those who suffer from severe gastrointestinal problems, may have trouble eating sufficient amounts of food every day. In these cases, protein shakes can be a great dietary supplement to ensure that their bodies have enough protein to function properly. isopure protein drink special k20 protein drink enlive protein drink

Smoking Cessation Natural help- Supplements to consider

The American Psychiatric Association's Handbook reports that "80% of smokers desire to quit smoking, 35% attempt to quit every year, yet only 5% of smokers are successful in their unaided attempts to quit".

Symptoms associated with nicotine dependence will begin shortly after occasional use, often prior to becoming a full time smoker. When a person wishes to Quit Smoking, dramatic changes in the brain rival the magnitude and duration of similar changes seen during withdrawal from cocaine, heroin and amphetamines. Many want to Quit Smoking but find it difficult to call it a day.

There are several herbs with a traditional reputation for helping people quit smoking. These herbs exert varying effects that will ease the process of smoking cessation. Most of them can be found in either dried bulk, capsule, or liquid extract form. Follow the directions on the label for use. If using dried herbs, use them only to prepare tea, and never smoke them as a replacement for tobacco.

Female Balance Ultimate

Black cohosh: Is commonly used by women to help them stay balanced during their monthly cycle. However, it is also known to be a safe sedative that relieves nervousness and anxiety, which makes it useful for the irritability, restlessness, and nervousness associated with quitting smoking.

Korean ginseng: Is one of the most popular herbs in the world for stimulating energy and helping the body to deal with stress. This property enables ginseng to help alleviate the fatigue and anxiety related to quitting smoking. Ginseng is known to help reestablish balance in the body’s systems, which can be helpful to smokers as their bodies adjust to the absence of nicotine.

Valerian: One of the premier sedative herbs used to aid people with anxiety, stress, and insomnia. Valerian also acts as a muscle relaxant. Valerian is clearly one of the herbs of choice in smoking cessation to deal with the issues of insomnia, restlessness, and anxiety.

Motherwort: Has properties that enable it to act as a sedative, inducing tranquility in times of anxiety associated with quitting smoking.

Red clover is also an expectorant and anti-spasmodic, aiding to increase mucus productivity and clear out the lungs smoking damage. The expectorant properties make coughing more productive and more increasing the removal of tar. The tar in cigarettes, among other chemicals, builds up in the lungs over time as cigarette smoke is inhaled, decreasing lung function.

Damiana: This herb is more often used by women for increased desire, but it can also help relax. It may also help with depression, and is considered generally safe for healthy individuals.

Octocleanse

According to the American Lung Association, cigarette smoke contains more than 4,800 different chemicals, many of which can compromise optimal health. Secondhand smoke also presents a health hazard for thousands of people each year. This strategy is for smokers who want to cleanse the body and temporarily ease their desire to smoke.

Peppermint
Many smokers experience nausea and even vomiting while quitting smoking due to nicotine withdrawals. This nausea can be alleviated with peppermint tea or peppermint essential oils. Peppermint is well-known for relieving nausea but is also great for promoting relaxation but can also have an anesthetic and pain-relieving effect on the body as well.

Hyssop: Has the ability to help with clearing mucus congestion in the lungs associated with COPD. It also has been known to alleviate the anxiety and even hysteria that is sometimes associated with smoking withdrawal.

PriVita

This formula contains ingredients that may help with the withdrawal symptoms of smoking. It also contains antioxidants to help fight the damage that nicotine inflicts on the lungs.

Peppermint: Has a relaxing effect on the muscles of the digestive system, combats flatulence, and stimulates the flow of bile and other digestive juices. The volatile oil in peppermint acts as a mild anesthetic to the stomach wall, which helps alleviate feelings of nausea. If smokers are having headaches associated with digestion, peppermint may help. Peppermint also eases anxiety and tension.

Astragalus has proven its antioxidant availability, and it also helps cleanse the body of nicotine, making it a great alternative medicine treatment for smoking cessation.

Turmeric (Curcuma longa). West Coast herbalist Kathi Keville, co-author of Aromatheraph: A Complete Guide to healing Arts tells of chronic smokers who took turmeric daily as part of a research project at the National Institute of Nutrition in Hyderabad, India. Those who took turmeric eliminated three to eight times more carcinogens form their bodies as smokers who took no turmeric.

Researchers believe that the polyphenols, particularly EGCG, found in green tea may help to offset oxidative damage seen in the lungs of a smoker. Cigarette smoke contains multiple compounds that can damage healthy lung tissue - not to mention many of these compounds are known cancer causing agents. Because EGCG and the other polyphenols in green tea function are antioxidants, they may help to reduce lung damage from smoking.

Herbalith

contains Valerian, Hops, Passionflower, tryptophan, Theanine and Lithium
Many smokers say that stress triggers them to pick up another cigarette. Not only are smokers nicotine dependent, but smoking has an "obsessive compulsive" component. This formula has calming herbs like Valerian, Passionflower, and Hops. This formula also contains a small amount of Lithium and L-tryptophan. In one study, Obsessive-compulsive patients with symptoms resistant to clomipramine were treated by lithium or L-tryptophan augmentation. The improvement noted supports the hypothesis that increasing serotonergic neurotransmission ameliorates obsessive symptoms. Nicotine depletes the adrenal glands and neurotransmitters in the brain. Herbalith is a neurtransmitter balancing formula.

Passion Flower- Nervousness, anxiety, and tenseness are one of the main symptoms of quitting. Passion flower is popular with smoke cessation because it will reduce stress and calm your nervous system. There has also been multiple studies that confirms the linkage between passion flower and a dramatic lessening of stress.

L-tryptophan, is one of the 23 essential amino acids in humans, which is used for protein synthesis. It is a precursor to niacin (a vitamin used in lowering cholesterol), melatonin ( substance we produce which helps regulate the sleep and wake cycle) and serotonin ( a chemical which has been shown to improve depression). Tryptophan supplementation has been used as a sleep aid. One of the reasons we always feel relaxed after drinking a glass of milk or eating a turkey sandwich, is because both milk and turkey are high in L-tryptophan. Along the same line of thought, it is believed that L-tryptophan can play a role in assisting smoking cessation due to its relaxing properties. This hypothesis is based on the concept of connecting serotonin transmission to cigarette craving and smoking behavior.

L-theanine: a natural amino acid found small amounts in green tea and certain mushrooms. As a supplement, it crosses into the brain and completes against exciting neurotransmitters—this directly competes with nicotine. L-theanine has a wonderful calming effect with little potential for side effects and is a perfect adjunct for smoking cessation. It also improves focus and concentration. It does not cause sedation during the day, but does improve natural sleep at night. Because theanine is metabolized by the same pathways as other amino acids in the body, there appears to be little risk of tolerance and dependence.

Damiana: This herb is more often used by women for increased desire, but it can also help relax. It may also help with depression, and is considered generally safe for healthy individuals.

Schisandra soothes lungs; eases coughs.

Rhodigandha

This product contains Ashwagandha and Rhodiola, two powerful adaptogens.

Aging, smoking and disease promote cellular degeneration, or the breakdown and death of cells, and this can be particularly dangerous when the cells in question are those in your brain. However, you can defend yourself — a study from the September 2001 issue of “Phytotherapy Research” found that ashwagandha supplementation significantly reduced the rate of cellular degeneration in the brain.

Giving up smoking can be very stressful and the adrenal glands are your main anti-stress organs. Rhodiola and the B-complex (especially vitamin B5) offer excellent adrenal support.
To help reduce the free radical damage generated by smoking, a good daily antioxidant complex is recommended. Rhodiganda contains Pomegranate, Bilberry, Acai, and Blueberry, which are excellent antioxidants.

I have noticed Rhodigandha really helps my clients with stress, especially as they stop smoking. Its effects are subtle but unmistakable. And luckily fast acting! You don't have to wait a month wondering if it will work. People usually notice it within days.

Green Cell Therapy

The blood is made acid by smoking and it is important to bring alkalinity back into the system. Green foods such as wheatgrass, barleygrass, and alfalfa can help with this process. Cigarette smoke releases poisonous heavy metals, including cadmium, into the system and Milk thistle and green foods can offer heavy metal detoxification and general liver support. Green foods and trace minerals also help to stabilise blood sugar, reducing the inevitable sugar cravings.

Nicotine Free Cigarettes were developed to act as an aid in helping smokers stop smoking and BREAK the nicotine addiction and behavioral habits that are associated with smoking, such as drinking coffee, tea, cocktails and stressful situations. Control the nicotine intake and effects, and the habits associated with nicotine can also be controlled and eliminated.

Herbs to quit smoking fall under different classifications.

* Some remedies to stop smoking address the smoker’s lungs, work to help smoker process the effects of smoking on the lungs. (Octocleanse)

* Some smoking cessation herbs work on the feelings of anxiety & depression that quitting may cause. (Female Balance Ultimate)

* Other smokers require herbal remedies to battle the insomnia that may follow quitting. (Herbalith)

* Still other herbs to quit smoking address the actual physical habit of smoking; so offer substitutes for the physical, psychological aspects of smoking. (Herbal Cigarettes)

* Finally, some stop smoking remedies work on helping the body correct cancer; heart disease promoting effects of smoking. (Privita)

These ideas can be used alone or in combination depending on your needs.

For women, Female Balance Ultimate in the AM, and Herbalith in the PM could be used, with Octocleanse or Green Cell Therapy added to hasten elimination of the toxins.

For men, Privita in the AM, Herbalith in the PM, and Octocleanse or Green Cell Therapy to hasten the elimination of the toxins.

For smokers who need help sleeping or help with appetite, try 1-2 Rhodigandha and 1-2 Herbalith nightly.

For smokers who have high cholesterol or fear weight gain, try the Octocleanse, Green Cell Therapy, and Rhodigandha combo.

The herbal cigarettes can be added for additional support.

Supplements to lower leptin

A lot of studies have demonstrated that obesity increases colon cancer risk. A study published in the British Journal of Surgery provides some insight into why being overweight is a risk factor for colon cancer.

Have you ever heard of leptin? It's a hormone that plays a key role in decreasing appetite; this makes sense given the word is derived from leptos, the Greek word for thin. Since leptin concentrations are higher in people who are overweight, researchers decided to expose colon cancer cells to leptin in a laboratory setting to see what would happen.

Turns out, colon cancer cells love the stuff. They thrive on it. The researchers concluded that leptin's apparent ability to encourage colon cancer cells to reproduce may help explain why obesity is a risk factor for colon cancer. Research is also being done to link it to breast and prostate cancer also.

Natural supplements that help with appetite control by modulating leptin and adiponectin levels.
There are several supplements that have an influence on appetite including the following:

Hoodia reduces appetite in some people
Green Tea extract
Garcinia cambogia is an herb that has hydrocytric acid
Carraluma
5-HTP which converts into serotonin
Acetylcarnitine is the acetyl form of carnitine.

According to experts, the weight loss industry is a multi-million dollar business. Despite what companies would like you to believe, there are no shortcuts to weight loss. Exercise is still the best fat burner known to man, and a good diet can do miracles when it comes to weight loss. Over the last decade, however, scientists have discovered that some herbs can push the body to burn fat faster. None of these herbs alone will act as a fat burner, but adding them to the diet can help curb your appetite so you can adhere to a healthy eating program, or give you extra energy so you burn extra calories.

Garcinia Cambogia
Garcinia, also known as Garcinia Cambogia, contains a biologically active compound which is known to inhibit the synthesis of lipids and fatty acids and lower the formation of LDL and triglycerides. Research suggests that this natural extract may also inhibit the conversion of excess calories to body fat. Additionally, appetite is also suppressed by promoting synthesis of glycogen. Glycogen is the stored form of glucose, one of the body's primary sources of energy. Increased glycogen production and storage is the body's normal way of signaling the brain's satiety centre that enough food has been eaten. This has made Garcinia a very effective herbal medicine for controlling obesity and cholesterol. It is a well established fat burning agent all over the world and is currently becoming a rage in America, Japan, Europe and many other western nations. It is recommended as a dieting aid supported by exercise and a balanced nutritional diet.

Chromium
Chromium is part of the GTF (Glucose Tolerance Factor) molecule. GTF is an important cofactor for insulin in the regulation of blood sugar, which is necessary for proper metabolism.

Green Tea
Green tea's weight loss benefits include an increased metabolism, a positive effect on blood sugar and insulin regulation, and possibly the inhibiting of the enzyme amylase, which is required for the processing of carbohydrates. It also has been shown to lower LDL levels (that's the "bad" cholesterol) as well as triglyceride levels.

Hoodia
Hoodia gordonii cactus is the plant with the new wonder ingredient that curbs one's appetite and helps one to slim. Hoodia gordonii is actually a succulent plant from the Kalahari Desert. The San People have been using the Hoodia gordonii succulent for centuries to stave off hunger during their long and arduous hunting trips in the harsh South African wild. The discovery of the active ingredient in the Hoodia gordonii plant is proven with clinical research to suppress one's appetite by up to 2000 calories a day.

Cinnamon
Cinnamon can control the insulin and cholesterol of the body at healthy levels. These two are essential in gaining a fit and healthier body. It helps controls how the body metabolizes fats and carbohydrates. As such, it helps control the creation of fat and ultimately its deposit into the body. Furthermore, cinnamon decreases the Low Density Lipoprotein or the “bad cholesterol” while increasing the high density lipoproteins or “good cholesterol” in the body.

L-carnitine
The primary function of carnitine in the body, is to regulate fat oxidation (burning). L-Carnitine is responsible for transporting fat to the fat furnace in our cells called mitochondria. Unless fat makes it to the mitochondria, it cannot be oxidized, no matter how much you exercise or diet. L-Carnitine works best with a diet low in sugars and starches (carbohydrates). Studies show that for carnitine to work effectively, carbohydrate intake should be kept below 50% of total calories consumed daily.
Elevated insulin levels inhibit optimal carnitine activity (the burning of body fat and energy production).
Omega 3 fats (flaxseed and fish oils) improve carnitine activity and function in the body
Adequate protein at each meal is essential for carnitine activity and fat burning.

White willow bark
White willow bark, is a source of salicin and other salicylates compounds which are similar in structure to aspirin (acetyl salicylic acid). Native Americans are thought to have used ground willow bark and bark steeped for tea as a medicinal remedy for everything from pain relief to fevers. White willow is thought to extend or increase the activity of several thermogenic ingredients in elevating energy expenditure and promoting fat metabolism.

Pain reliever (headaches, arthritis, minor injuries)
Fever reducer
Anti-inflammatory
Enhances weight loss (only in combination with other ingredients)

Feedback from my patients include that it diminishes appetite and gives an energy boost.
A net deficit of 500 calories per day (either by burning or decreased consumption) could result in a pound of weight loss per week.
People can also benefit from adding fish oils and eating more fish in their diets. Omega-3 fats help improve insulin and leptin sensitivity.

Why men should consider Privita an herbal estrogen blocker and aromatase inhibitor

The levels of your male sex hormone, testosterone, are bound to decrease as you advancing in age. A point in your life is reached when the levels of your testosterone will fall so low that your estrogen hormones begin to dominate your physiological system. This is what is known as hormonal imbalance or estrogen dominance.

The problems caused by this imbalance can actually be easily detected as it is accompanied by many symptomatic bodily changes. A few of the symptoms of estrogen dominance include

weight gain,
irritation,
alteration in moods,
depression (Note: depression caused by estrogen dominance is difficult to treat with antidepressants),
fatigue,
erectile dysfunction,
breast enlargement (gynecomastia or "man boobs"),
heart disease,
decreased libido and
prostrate diseases

Estrogen dominance can also cause

urinary problems,
impotency,
allergies,
diabetes,
infertility,
osteoporosis and
many other types of abnormalities.

Testosterone is one of the primary male sex hormones produced in your body. A healthy male has approximately 1000 to 1200 nanograms/dl of Testosterone at the age of 20. After reaching the age of 30, however, there is a steady decline in these levels. By age 40 to 50 these levels would have significantly dropped to about 50%. Upon reaching the age of 80, the normal level of testosterone in the male body would approximate 100 to 200 nanograms/dl.

This condition is usually aggravated by environmental substances. Xenoestrogens (estrogens like substances) that can be found in the air, fuels, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, plastics, clothing, bug / mosquito sprays and personal care products are easily absorbed by your body. Since xenoestrogens are very potent and estrogen-like, they contribute further to the worsening of hormone imbalances.

There are many ways to treat the imbalance. The most natural treatment, however, begins with your diet. A diet of fish, organic fruits and vegetables, whole grain foods and raw foods maintains your body's natural inclination towards good health and systemic balance.

Using proper diet as a baseline plus adding a regimen of stress management techniques will definitely aid you in reducing sleeplessness and fatigue. This in turn will promote proper weight management and circulation, which is necessary in aiding your body in producing the necessary hormones you need to overcome estrogen dominance.

The top 11 testosterone boosting foods for men.

1) Oysters: Protein, magnesium, lots of zinc

The Facts:
Along with increasing your physical endurance, oysters pack more zinc than almost any other food source just six gives you almost seven times the RDA and zinc plays a key role in muscle growth and testosterone levels.

How much:
Eat a serving of oysters once a week, raw, cooked or canned but never fried.

2) Lean Beef: Protein, iron, magnesium, zinc, saturated fat

The Facts:
Few things have as positive an impact on testosterone levels as lean meats. Beef specifically offers the added benefit of high protein and zinc two nutrients key to optimizing testosterone and muscle-building potential in one source. And while you don’t want too much saturated fat in your diet, you require some to produce testosterone.

How much:
Grill or broil a lean cut of steak a few times a week. I love Top Sirloin!

3) Beans: Protein, fiber, zinc

The Facts:
Beans are indeed the magical fruit. Beans pack a bigger shot of zinc than any other member of the veggie family; some (like baked beans) even rival the zinc content of red meat. Add that to a food that’s high in protein and fiber and low in fat, and you have a winning combo.

How much:
Baked beans, lima beans, navy beans and kidney beans are all good choices. Canned versions are as nutritious as dry!

4) Poultry: Protein and little fat

The Facts:
High-protein diets have a positive impact on muscle mass and thus testosterone levels and high fat seems to have the opposite effect. So while chicken and turkey lack high zinc levels, their protein-to-fat ratios make them important to your diet.

How much:
Roast or grill skinless, boneless portions of turkey or chicken several times a week.

5) Eggs: Protein and cholesterol

The Facts:
Testosterone is synthesized from cholesterol, and as such, food containing cholesterol is a good source of building blocks for testosterone. Eggs are a source of pure, unadulterated cholesterol, and one recent study showed that the excess cholesterol in eggs isn’t as harmful as previously thought. So stock up on whole eggs (unless otherwise instructed by your physician). Or use the liquid egg whites!

How much:
Start your day with 3-4 whole eggs cooked in olive oil or fat-free cooking spray. The amount of eggs you eat also depends on your goals, body weight etc.

6) Cottage Cheese: (1% Milk Fat)Protein with very little fat

The Facts:
One cup of 1% cottage cheese has more protein and less fat than a serving of lean beef or chicken. Have it as a snack or with a meal for testosterone-boosting potential.

How much:
Eat 1 cup of cottage cheese each day

7) Broccoli: Indole-3-carbinol, fiber

Eat cruciferous veggies. Broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage yields compounds called indoles that help lower certain estrogens, which in turn can help reduce estrogen’s inhibitory effects on testosterone production.

The Facts:
Elevated estrogen levels lead to fat accumulation and can interfere with muscle growth. In a clinical study, indole-3-carbinol cut the largely female hormone estradiol in half for men. Broccoli contains high levels of indoles, food compounds that help reduce bad estrogen.

How much:
Eat as many servings of broccoli as you can stomach.

8) Cabbage: Indole-3-carbinol, fiber

The Facts:
In addition to exhibiting the same estradiol-restricting properties as other cruciferous vegetables, cabbage is high in fiber. Fiber is great for controlling weight, as it prevents the consumption of fattier foods. Keeping weight down has an anti-estrogen impact.

How much:
Load up that fat-free brat with sauerkraut and have a side of slaw just go easy on the mayo.

9) Brussels Sprouts: Indole-3-carbinol, fiber

The Facts:
You should have listened to your mom: Brussels sprouts do help you grow up big and strong. Like the other vegetables on our list, these specifically target bad estrogen and pack just as much fiber.

How much:
Hold your nose and power them down. Good luck!

10) Garlic: Allicin

The Facts:
In clinical studies, garlic’s active ingredient enhances testosterone levels and inhibits cortisol, a hormone that competes with testosterone, limiting its actions and breaking down muscle tissue.

How much:
Season other foods with garlic when you can, but eating whole cloves provides the most direct benefit.

11. Fruits
Fruits such as blueberries, apples, pineapples and citrus fruits all contain vitamin C, which is thought to moderate and improve testosterone levels. Tomatoes, which are also considered a fruit, contain large amounts of vitamin A, which helps with the normal functioning of the reproductive system. Eliminate grapefruit from your diet, as it is thought to impair the functioning of the liver's breakdown of estrogen.

12. Asparagus is rich in vitamin E, which is considered to stimulate the production of sex hormones (testosterone) and may be important for a healthy sex life.

Good libido food for both female and male libido levels

13. Avocado contain high levels of folic acid, helping to metabolize proteins. They also contain vitamin B6, helpful in increasing male hormone production. In addition potassium is found in avocado which aids in regulating the female thyroid gland, this helps enhance female libido levels.

Stick to the ratio: Men should aim for 45% of calories from protein, 35% from carbs and 20% from fats. As you put daily menus together, these numbers will help you maintain this diet.

Avoid high-glycemic carbs: Carb-rich foods high on the glycemic index can negatively affect your testosterone levels.

Think protein & fats: High-protein and moderate-fat foods are crucial for enhancing testosterone and, as a result, building muscle. Make these foods the building blocks of your diet!

Drink a protein and carb shake after working out. Consuming proteins and carbs after training has been shown to increase the amount of testosterone that enters muscle cells, where it can increase muscle growth. Take 20-40 grams of whey protein and 40-100 grams of simple carbohydrates post-workout.

1. What is an anti-estrogen and where does it come from?

An anti-estrogen, simply put, is an estrogen blocker. Males and females have two major hormones in the body that is estrogen and testosterone.

Guys have more testosterone and girls have more estrogen. Unfortunately for guys, estrogen carrys a strong signal to the pituitary gland in the brain, which controls your "on" and "off" switch for testosterone production.

What happens when estrogen levels rise higher than normal in males, the body's testosterone production lowers, which is NOT a good thing when you are trying to build and pack on muscle!

2. What do anti-estrogen products do?

Anti-estrogen products again, help stop the production of estrogen in the body. This is very critical and important due to the fact that estrogen is testosterones enemy! A study done in Europe showed athletes who supplemented chrysin had a dramatic testosterone increase of 30% in their blood serum levels!

Along with chrysin, another potent and important ingredient that helps suppress estrogen is green tea extract.

It may also contribute to improvements in fat loss in addition to other benefits

Privita includes resveratrol, pomegranate, green tea, quercetin, chrysin, nutgrass, white turmeric, and astralagus so it has high antioxidant activity, as well as aromatase inhibitor and estrogen blocking activity.

What we do know is that estrogen does promote the development of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH). Estrogen stimulates the cells in the tissue surrounding the prostate, leading to urinary symptoms associated with prostate disease (Eur J Cancer. 2008; 44(7):928-36). Furthermore, in one study, BPH patients were found to have greater estradiol levels than those without BPH (Urology.2007; 69(4):708-13).

While some studies show that there is no relationship between serum estradiol and prostate cancer, this may be explained by the fact that prostate cells produce their own estradiol locally. Estradiol may be high around the prostate, but it may not show up in a blood test. Local synthesis of estrogen has been thought to play a role in prostate cancer development (Minerva Endocrinol. 2006; 31(1):1-12).

Dr. Jonathan Wright states in his article that prostate cancer development and andropause (male menopause, wherein testosterone levels decrease and estrogen levels increase) are associated. This may be because when men reach andropause, the ratio of estrogens to androgens can reach up to 40%. He recommends that men avoid regular soy consumption as this can potentially increase estrogen.

PriVita can be helpful to restore normal estrogen and testosterone levels in men.

Hyperaromatization of testosterone, where an enzyme called aromatase converts testosterone into estrogen, is a key contributor to estrogen dominance. Clinical studies show that PriVita works as a natural aromatase inhibitor that reduces estradiol and estrone in both men and women. PriVita prevents the conversion of testosterone into unhealthy estrogens (estradiol and estrone) making more testosterone available, and leads to the unhindered production of more beneficial estrogen (estriol) from progesterone, DHEA, and other hormones.

Endometrial Ablation

Endometrial ablation is the removal or destruction of the endometrium (lining of the uterus). It does not require hospitalization, and most women return to normal activities in a day or two. Ablation is an alternative to hysterectomy for many women with heavy uterine bleeding who are wish to avoid major surgery. After a successful endometrial ablation, most women will experience a pronounced reduction in their menstrual bleeding. Some women report no menstrual bleeding.

As with any surgical procedure, there are risks, which should be compared to the risks of things we do in every day life. A number of things can be done to reduce these risks. Some of the risks of endometrial ablation procedures are perforation of the uterus, absorbing excess fluid, bleeding, infection, injury to organs within the abdomen and pelvis, and accumulation of blood within the uterus due to scarring. Another rare, but important, concern after any endometrial ablation procedure is that it might decrease your doctor's ability to make an early diagnosis of cancer of the endometrium. Abnormal bleeding should be evaluated whether or not you have had an ablation.

A small percentage of properly selected women having an ablation will still eventually need a hysterectomy, but the vast majority will not.

Since an endometrial ablation destroys the lining of the uterus, endometrial ablation is not for anyone who desires to keep her fertility. Women who have a malignancy or pre-malignant condition of the uterus are not candidates for ablation.

Women who are obese are two to four times more likely to develop endometrial cancer than women who are at a healthy body weight — and even women who are merely overweight are also at an increased risk. In cultures where hunger and malnourishment are less common, such as in the United States, obesity could be the reason for up to 40 percent of diagnosed cases of endometrial cancer.

Body mass index, or BMI, may be a predictor of endometrial cancer risk, according to a recent study. Women with a BMI of 35 or greater are at a significantly higher risk of developing endometrial cancer than are women with a healthy BMI. The researchers found that overweight women with a BMI of 25 or greater were six times more likely to develop endometrial cancer than women of a healthier body weight. There are minimally invasive ways to catch this early.

Q: Are there special needs for postmenopausal women?

A: Progesterone is needed in hormone replacement therapy for menopausal women for many reasons, but one of its most important roles is to balance or oppose the effects of estrogen. Unopposed estrogen creates a strong risk for breast cancer and reproductive cancers.

Estrogen levels drop only 40-60% at menopause, which is just enough to stop the menstrual cycle. But progesterone levels may drop to near zero in some women. Because progesterone is the precursor to so many other steroid hormones, its use can greatly enhance overall hormone balance after menopause. Progesterone also stimulates bone-building and thus helps protect against osteoporosis.

Q: What is progesterone?

A: Progesterone is a steroid hormone made by the corpus luteum of the ovary at ovulation, and in smaller amounts by the adrenal glands. Progesterone is manufactured in the body from the steroid hormone pregnenolone, and is a precursor to most of the other steroid hormones, including cortisol, androstenedione, the estrogens and testosterone.

In a normally cycling female, the corpus luteum produces 20 to 30 mg of progesterone daily during the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle.

Q: Why not just use the progestin Provera as prescribed by most doctors?

A: Progesterone is preferable to the synthetic progestins such as Provera, because it is natural to the body and has no undesirable side effects when used as directed.

If you have any doubts about how different progesterone is from the progestins, remember that the placenta produces 300-400 mg of progesterone daily during the last few months of pregnancy, so we know that such levels are safe for the developing baby. But progestins, even at fractions of this dose, can cause birth defects. The progestins also cause many other side effects, including partial loss of vision, breast cancer in test dogs, an increased risk of strokes, fluid retention, migraine headaches, asthma, cardiac irregularities and depression.

Q: What is estrogen dominance?

A: The term "estrogen dominance," is used to describe what happens when the normal ratio or balance of estrogen to progesterone is changed by excess estrogen or inadequate progesterone. Estrogen is a potent and potentially dangerous hormone when not balanced by adequate progesterone.

Both women who have suffered from PMS and women who have suffered from menopausal symptoms, will recognize the hallmark symptoms of estrogen dominance: weight gain, bloating, mood swings, irritability, tender breasts, headaches, fatigue, depression, hypoglycemia, uterine fibroids, endometriosis, and fibrocystic breasts. Estrogen dominance is believed to contribute to cancer of the breast, ovary, endometrium (uterus), and prostate.

Q: Why would a premenopausal woman need progesterone cream?

A: In the ten to fifteen years before menopause, many women regularly have anovulatory cycles in which they make enough estrogen to create menstruation, but they don't make any progesterone, thus setting the stage for estrogen dominance. Using progesterone cream during anovulatory months can help prevent the symptoms of PMS.

We now know that PMS can occur despite normal progesterone levels when stress is present. Stress increases cortisol production; cortisol blockades (or competes for) progesterone receptors. Additional progesterone is required to overcome this blockade, and stress management is important.

Q: What is progesterone made from?

A: The USP progesterone used for hormone replacement comes from plant fats and oils, usually a substance called diosgenin which is extracted from a very specific type of wild yam that grows in Mexico, or from soybeans. In the laboratory diosgenin is chemically synthesized into real human progesterone. The other human steroid hormones, including estrogen, testosterone, progesterone and the cortisones are also nearly always synthesized from diosgenin.

Some companies are trying to sell diosgenin, which they label "wild yam extract" as a medicine or supplement, claiming that the body will then convert it into hormones as needed. While we know this can be done in the laboratory, there is no evidence that this conversion takes place in the human body.

Q: Where should I put the progesterone cream?

A: Because progesterone is very fat-soluble, it is easily absorbed through the skin. Just massage a dime-size dollop of cream (about 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon) into your skin. Try your wrists, arms, thighs, tummy-whatever you like. Do that twice a day for 21 days, then rest for the next seven, and you're on your way to natural peri/menopausal balance. Or if you're looking for help with PMS balance, use 14 days on and 14 off.

Q: What is the recommended dosage of progesterone?

A: For premenopausal women the usual dose is 15-24 mg/day for 14 days before expected menses, stopping the day or so before menses.

For postmenopausal women, the dose that often works well is 15 mg/day for 25 days of the calendar month.

Q: How safe is progesterone cream?

A: During the third trimester of pregnancy, the placenta produces about 300 mg of progesterone daily, so we know that a one-time overdose of the cream is virtually impossible. If you used a whole jar at once it might make you sleepy. However, it is usually recommended that women avoid using higher than the recommended dosage to avoid hormone imbalances. More is not better when it comes to hormone balance.

Q: Wouldn't it be easier to just take a progesterone pill?

A: Since 80% to 90% of the oral dose is lost through the liver, the transdermal cream rather than oral progesterone should be considered. Thus, at least 200 to 400 mg daily is needed orally to achieve a physiologic dose of 15 to 24 mg daily. Such high doses may create undesirable metabolites and unnecessarily overload the liver.

Q: What other types of ingredients would be in a natural OTC progesterone cream?

A: Aloe Vera Oil has softening, healing, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory properties. Its moisturizing ability is its most widely recognized characteristics. Aloe vera penetrates the skin, supplying moisture directly to the tissue.

Avocado Oil may mobilize and increase the collagen of connective tissue; given the highest ranking by the Encyclopedia of Chemical Technology for sunscreen effectiveness. Avocado oil enjoys the highest penetration rate among similar oils.

Carrot Oil used since the sixteenth century for skin diseases due to its believed cleansing, depurative, and draining properties. This carotene-rich emollient has been indicated for acne skin conditions, dermatitis, skin irritation, skin rashes, and wrinkles; derived from the carrot root.

Lemon Grass Oil is considered astringent and tonic. Lemon grass oil is the volatile oil distilled from the leaves of the lemon grasses.

Natural Glycerin is used as a moisturizer and humectant to replace moisture in the skin.

Rosemary Extract is a natural preservative.

Natural Progesterone derived from Mexican wild yam root. These sterols are processed through several fermentation steps to yield progesterone which is identical to the progesterone which is produced by the human body.

Vitamin A Palmitate is known as a skin “normalizer.” It acts as an antikeratinizing agent, helping the skin stay soft and plump. Clinical studies with vitamin A palmitate indicate a significant change in skin composition with increase in collagen, DNA, skin thickness, and elasticity. Vitamin A palmitate’s stability is superior to retinol.

Vitamin E is considered the most important oil soluble antioxidant and free radical scavenger. As a moisturizer, vitamin E is well absorbed through the skin; derived from alfalfa and wheat.

PriVita supports improved estrogen metabolism leading to an optimal ratio of "good" to "bad" estrogen metabolites, which results in a greatly decreased risk of getting cancer as well as improved prostate and cardiovascular health. The latest research strongly implicates "estrogen dominance" as a major contributing factor in perimenopause and premenstrual syndrome, prostate enlargement, early age heart attacks and cancer. PriVita provides an effective natural treatment for these and other important conditions confronting both women and men.

Many researchers have concluded that an over abundance of estrogen is responsible for a vast number of today's health problems. This over abundance of estrogen is referred to as "estrogen dominance" and is an increasingly serious problem for both women and men. Many believe that "estrogen dominance" is a risk factor in prostate enlargement and prostate cancer in men and a big risk factor for breast cancer in women.

"Estrogen dominance" can occur as we age and can also occur from exposure to "estrogen like" substances in the environment known as "xenoestrogens".

Xenoestrogens are synthetic substances that differ from those produced by living organisms and imitate or enhance the effect of estrogens. The estrogenic stimulation is an unintended side-effect of these agents or their metabolites. Xenoestrogens are part of a heterogeneous group of chemicals that are hormone or endocrine disruptors. They differ from phytoestrogens (estrogenic substances from plants), mycoestrogens (estrogenic substances from fungi), and pharmacological estrogens (estrogenic action is intended). External estrogens from a variety of sources may have a cumulative effect upon living organisms, and xenoestrogens may be part of a larger picture of a process of estrogenization of the environment. Xenoestrogens have only been recently (less than 70 years) introduced into the environment, as produced by industrial, agricultural, and chemical companies.

Xenoestrogens have been implicated in a variety of medical problems. Foremost is the concern that xenoestrogens as false messengers disrupt the process of reproduction. Studies have implicated observations of disturbances in wildlife with estrogenic exposure. Reproductive issues which are of concerns in humans are fetal exposure (perhaps leading to hypospadia) and decreased reproductive ability in men (i.e. decrease in sperm numbers). Another issue is the potential effect of xenoestrogens as oncogenes, specifically in relation to breast cancer.

Natural estrogen blockers are a type of popular dietary supplement that have a number of benefits. They are have been used to help increase the metabolism of athletes and those who want to cut down on their body’s level of body fat, and increase the production of lean muscle mass. They can also be used to block bad estrogens, such as 16-hydroxyestrogen, to reduce the amount and the effectiveness of the aromatose enzyme, and to help block estrogen receptor sites.

Privita includes resveratrol, pomegranate, green tea, quercetin, nutgrass, white turmeric, astralagus so it has high antioxidant activity, as well as aromatase inhibitor and estrogen blocking activity.

It is good for conditions like fibroids, ovarian cysts, fibrocystic breasts, benign prostatic hypertrophy, abdominal fat, gynecomastia (man boobs), and endometriosis.

Niacin for raising HDL

Benefits Of Niacin

The benefits of niacin include improved circulation, lowered cholesterol, healthy skin, prevention of diabetes, and treatment for osteoarthritis.

Niacin, also known as vitamin B3, is naturally produced in the body and is found in many of the foods we eat. These include meats, tuna fish, poultry products, eggs, peanuts, vegetables, cheeses, potatoes, oats, brown rice, barley, wheat flakes and milk. Also rich in vitamin B3 are foods such as cereals and breads therefore they improve the benefits of niacin.

Niacin and Circulation

Histamine which niacin helps to produce is a compound that is capable of dilating blood vessels, which in turn improves circulation. This helps blood to circulate to the hands, feet and all parts of the body, which helps to prevent atherosclerosis or what is sometimes called hardening of the arteries. An additional effect of this benefit of niacin is reducing the risk of heart attack or other vascular diseases.

Niacin Lowers Cholesterol Levels

In spite of the many different cholesterol medications on the market one of the best benefits of Niacin is the lowering low-density lipoprotein or LDL cholesterol as well as triglyceride levels. In addition to lowering LDL, the bad cholesterol, B3 or niacin increases the good cholesterol HDL or high-density lipoprotein levels. The HDL levels can be increased by as much as 15 to 35 percent, which is more significant than the 5 to 25 percent lowering of the LDL, which is still impressive nonetheless. If you have had a heart attack studies have shown that taking cholesterol-lowering drugs in combination with niacin can decrease the likelihood of a second heart attack.

Healthy Skin and Niacin

Niacin can help keep skin healthy and is used for a variety of skin problems, including inflammation, acne, rosacea, dull skin tone and sagging skin. Regular use can help reduce these problems. Niacin also helps the skin with moisture retention and aids skin’s elasticity and tone. You can use supplements but to increase the benefits of niacin on your skin, eat fish, meats, grains and green vegetables or other foods high in vitamin B3.

Niacin Helps Prevent Diabetes

There us evidence that niacinamide a substance contained in niacin may help delay the onset of insulin dependence for type 1 diabetics. There have been studies performed on animals in which have shown niacinamide can improve the effectivity of drug treatments that are used for diabetes.

Type 2 diabetes is another story. This can cause higher levels of cholesterol and fats in the bloodstream. Niacin along with other medications can lower these however niacin may also raise blood sugar that can result in hyperglycemia. This can be very dangerous for someone with diabetes. Therefor you should only take niacin for diabetes as directed by your physician.

Osteoarthritis and Niacin

Niacinamide has been found to increase joint mobility. Also Niacin can reduce joint and muscle fatigue along with increasing muscle strength. Therefore vitamin B3 has been successfully used to treat osteoarthritis. If high doses are taken the benefits of niacin can be seen in around three to four months. The anti-inflammatory effects of niacin have been proven to be effective in treating rheumatoid arthritis. Taking vitamin B3 has also shown to rebuild worn out cartilage in arthritis sufferers.

Other Benefits of Niacin

In addition to those discussed above there are many other claimed niacin benefits, however they have not all been fully established. These include the following:

Treating Alcoholism

Decreasing the risk of cataracts

Mental Confusion

Promoting relaxation

Preventing Migraines

Production of adrenal hormones

Crohn Disease

Production of hydrochloric acid in the stomach

Treating depression

Lowered risk of Alzheimer’s disease

Preventing motion sickness

Production of sex hormones

Treating Schizophrenic symptoms

Treatment for peripheral artery disease (PAD)

As you can see there benefits of niacin are numerous. However as with any type of vitamin or supplement you should consult with your doctor or medical professional prior to taking these on your own accord.

If you try to take niacin on your own—without your doctor’s supervision—you may take an ineffective dosage, or even a dangerous dosage. Or you may experience troublesome side effects that could be managed easily if you had the right information.

Vitamin D supplements liquid, topical, repletion ideas

What does vitamin D do for the body?

This essential nutrient is called a vitamin, but dietary vitamin D is actually a precursor hormone — the building block of a powerful steroid hormone in your body called calcitriol. It’s been known for many years that vitamin D is critical to the health of our bones and teeth, but deeper insight into D’s wider role in our health is quite new.

Vitamin D works in concert with other nutrients and hormones in your body to support healthy bone renewal — an ongoing process of mineralization and demineralization which, when awry, shows up as rickets in children and osteomalacia (“soft bones”) or osteoporosis (“porous bones”) in adults.

Researchers are discovering that D also promotes normal cell growth and differentiation throughout the body, working as a key factor in maintaining hormonal balance and a healthy immune system. It appears that calcitriol actually becomes part of the physical composition of cells, assisting in the buildup and breakdown of healthy tissue — in other words, regulating the processes that keep you well.

What’s more, evidence from studies tracking the prevalence of disease by geography and nationality shows clear links between vitamin D deficiency and obesity, insulin resistance, heart disease, certain cancers, and depression. Since most of these problems take many years to manifest, vitamin D deficiency has been overlooked by many providers for a very long time. I test all of my patients, and have been surprised to find that more than 85% come up with a vitamin D deficiency.

Your body can’t create vitamin D on its own. Instead, it’s designed to make it through sun exposure. In theory, you can make an ample supply of vitamin D with as little as a couple of hours per week in the sun — provided the UVB rays are strong enough. You can also ingest D through food, especially fatty fish like wild–harvested salmon. Plus, lots of foods are fortified nowadays, so vitamin D deficiency should be an easy problem to solve, right? But the truth is, we’re just not getting enough, and so many of us aren’t even close.
Few foods naturally contain or are fortified with supplemental vitamin D. For example, an 8-ounce glass of whole milk is fortified with 100 IU (international units) of vitamin D – just 10 percent of what the most conservative vitamin D researchers now say we need daily. In contrast, sun exposure to the skin makes thousands of units of vitamin D naturally in a relatively short period of time.

Vitamin D supplements are an alternative means of producing vitamin D when regular, non-burning sun exposure is not possible.

Humans spend less time in the sun today than at any point in human history – which is why more than 1 billion people worldwide are vitamin D deficient.

Consequences of low Vitamin D

Rickets: Rickets is caused in children by deficiency of Vitamin D, calcium or phosphorus. It used to be the most well known of the symptoms of vitamin d deficiency but has not been a big problem since food manufacturers started fortifying milk and other foods with small doses of Vitamin D.

Depression: There is some evidence to show that low Vitamin D levels have an association with depression, and studies have shown that Vitamin D3 has helped reduce seasonal depression during winter months. Lack of UVB Rays from the sun may be part of the reason for Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD).

Weakened immune system: Most cells in the body contain receptor sites for Vitamin D and these include immune system cells. Vitamin D has been shown to enhance the activity of those cells, and to decrease chances of developing autoimmune diseases such as Multiple Sclerosis.

Mysterious health issues: Vitamin D has many varied effects on the cells in the body, and if you are experiencing any mysterious health symptoms then you should have a blood test done to make sure you are not Vitamin D deficient.

Long term symptoms of Vitamin D deficiency

Osteoporosis: An important role of Vitamin D is regulating calcium absorption and calcium balance in the bones, and a well known symptom of vitamin d deficiency is weakened and brittle bones, where the severe cases end up with osteoporosis.

Cancer: Vitamin D deficiency has in research studies been shown to be highly correlated with many forms of cancer. This makes the recommendation of people avoiding the sun in order to prevent skin cancer to be extremely bogus, since avoiding sun would cause low vitamin d levels and therefore increase risks of developing other cancer forms.

Please find the dose that your health provider recommended you take and make sure your blood levels are monitored regularly if you are on a high dose supplement.

Suggestions for my patients:
Please consider all of the other calcium containing supplements when you view these suggestions.

Kidney health, recurrent UTI, bladder infection help

Cranberry and cranberry juice for treating urinary tract infections is one of the most common home/ natural remedies. Cranberry juice or vitamins C both increase the acid in your urine so bacteria can't grow easily. Cranberry juice also makes your bladder wall slippery, so bacteria can't stick to it. A large polymeric compound of unknown structure and fructose in the juice are said to be responsible for this. Whereas fructose is present in all fruits, the large polymeric compound is found only in cranberry and blueberry juices.

A specific type of tannin found only in cranberries and blueberries interacts with the little projections on the Escherichia coli (E. coli) bacteria (the most common cause of UTI), preventing them from sticking to the walls of the bladder and causing infection.

A UTI is an infection anywhere in the urinary tract, including the kidneys, the bladder and the urethra. Due to anatomy, women have a higher risk of UTIs than men, and people who experience three or more in one year are considered to have recurrent infections.

Goji and cherry can be used as an alternative for those who are sensitive to cranberries or have interstitial cystitis.
